Best software with the 1k

im gettin an mpc 1000 and trying to get some computer software to assist with the beat making process

I know you can make everything in the mpc itself but i want additional software
What would you recommend?

I was thinking of getting cubase or reason (probably cubase since I also record my vocals in cool edit)

maybe even a synth hardware or the asr, but i need to upgrade my software anyway

The Cubase sequencer would work great with the MPC1000. Reason is also a good program to work with any hardware/software.

I run a Cubase SX setup myself. I MIDI in through Cubase into Reason and other soft/hard synths/samplers for patching beats together quickly as the MPC is extremely good at that sort of thing. Cubase allows me to route the Reason tracks through individual FX setups and let me tell you Cubase has some nice effects. Perhaps they could use a better reverb but they're excellent as is. And so flexible! You can route them as either sends or as flat inserts. Sends is the way to go for when you're using the same effect on multiple tracks.

Anyway, Reason is a great program for cooking things up quickly as well, I haven't done any real sampling work with Reason, but programming the synths is fairly simple and sending each instrument through different effects and EQ in Cubase is incredible. You can still route within Reason but I find it most accessible to just run each Reaso instrument straight to the audio out bus in Reason and rewire it within Cubase.

A quick tip: Once you've got a beat made on the MPC playing soft synths, do NOT record the MIDI directly into Cubase. Instead, export a .mid file and import to Cubase, because the MPC will layer excess data and Cubase will not be able to filter it out correctly, resulting in incorrect playback.

Once you've imported your .mid, you can record the soft synths audio directly into Cubase, or render it live to any sort of audio file. Cubase is the most versatile, easy to use DAW I've touched. Worth the insane price.

Be ware if you plan on using protools it really sux at Midi and handling Vsti wrapped plug-ins and such. I currently have my MPC hooked up with Reason via Rewire and PT...but i experience crashes beyond belief. I heard Digital Perfomer or Cubase is alot better...jus fyi

Research b4 u buy though

Reason is the bomb - you can work out synth lines, basslines etc bounce to wave and load up into MPC1000

Logic w/ Kontact is tight for more involved stuff

and now that OS 1.4 is out ProToolz is tyte for audio sampling / chopping / reversing (basic and more advanced audio editing)

I heard that Reason and MPC1000 make a real good team. I tried it, the combination of both is tight.
