PROBELM SAVING

I can't seem to figure out how to avoid DIRECTORY ERRORS and the MPCs inability to save every sample in an individual program. Please help because I have 2-3 new beats on my MPC that will disappear when the MPC is turned off. Thanks.

Have you read the manual?

Press LOAD, then SAVE (pad3)
In your LCD screen at the top
select your destination (SAVE TO: _______) memory card or Hard Drive
select the type (TYPE:_______), if you select SAVE A PROGRAM it will ask you if you want to save the samples along with it... say YES.
ITEM:___________ select your program

Then press DO IT

Yes I have read the manual...I know how to save. The problem I keep running into is that even after saving things I will turn the MPC back on and certain samples that WERE included in the program will not be there...

I continue to see (Sample01?) in the sample tab of the program. Got any solutions?

Sorry, didn't mean to come across as rude or anything...

First thing, did you change the name of your program at any point? If you do that, the MPC1K will look for the old file name.

Secondly: have you hooked it up to your computer via USB? You get a much better view of what's lurking inside.

Whenever I save a program along with its samples, I noticed they are placed loosely inside my main HD folder—I have an 80GB hard drive inside the MPC1K. What I do is I create a new folder, let's call it PROGRAM 01, and inside this new folder I drag and drop all the wav files associated with this program (i.e the wav files that were saved with the program) along with the program, let's also call it PROGRAM 01.PGM —that's just my protocol, I place my programs in a folder with the same name, like that I can easily find things. You will notice of course the name of your program has a ".PGM" suffix at the end which stands for program. Now, very important, do not place the sequence associated with this program inside this same folder or else the MPC1K will not find it... It's as if it cannot read inside folder (unless I just don't know how.)

Is this of any help or just a whole bunch of babbling?

All of that was good help. I'll try to organize my flash cards today and let you know if it fixed the problems. If you remember, check this post once more and I'll let you know if it worked. Thanks.

You need to install the JJ OS. Or, if you are going to stick with the AKAI OS, then here is how I used to solve that glitch in AKAI's software:

5. I then hit NEW to make a new folder, then in the NEW FOLDER dialog I hit PASTE (since i copied the name of the folder in step 1).

6. Then I SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY to the folder I just re-created.


I'm assuming this method would work for saving to the hard drive too, but I haven't been able to test that since I don't have a hard drive installed.

As far as I can tell, it is the combination of not overwriting, and "refreshing" that has eliminated the error for me. since I have been saving like this I have had ZERO errors. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you.

I would recommend a backup and reformat if you have been having the error a lot because you probably have some corruption already on the disk which could cause additional headaches later.
