bad akai ram

so i my akai was freezing up. i determined that it was a ram issue. the ram i was using was the akai ram. i was wondering if anybody here had an issue with this ram. if so were they able to contact akai and get new ram for free? i just emailed tham. i know they are not the best as far as customer service but i thought it was worth a shot. theyre selling that ram for like $150 so for that price it should last longer than a few months. right?

Hi,I too was having issues with my first brand new MPC1000. I bought the akai ram at the same time as the mpc and installed it first thing. I was having issues with the machine so i sent it back,The store sent me back a new mpc1000 and i was still having some issues every now and then and still do to this day....by chance is your akai ram the none red version? mine is green and came in a black box...let me know cause it would explain your problem and mine.

Send it back if you can. To be honest these 1K's (even the black ones) have a really crappy build quality so there's probablysomething wrong with it.

My headphone jack has never been right since the day I bought it (you have to jiggle the head phone plug to get it working and it cuts in and out), one of my midi ports is kind of messed up so it's really hard to get the cable in and there's a bubble under my screen. Nothing major but just shows how lame Akai has become. I love my MPC, but when comparing the build quality to my Korg gear you can tell that Akai really skimps on Quality Control.

When I bought it there was a huge waiting list for units here in Japan, so I had to wait like 3 months to get one. That's the reason I never sent mine back.

after i took out the ram my mpc worked for about a day then started freezing up again.

Yeah i am going to call akai and get a service number on Monday to send it to them to fix it...most likely it still will be screwed up when they send it back to me...but f@#$ it the thing is still under warranty so minds well...lets see what happens.

update to my situation. akai replied to me right away and offered to replace the ram. so at least heres a story where they were helpful

Not so fast, grasshopper! You don't know if the ram will fix the problem yet!

Good luck, anyway. I have OEM memory, so nobody to cry to if it doesn't work--but it does so far.

actually im not going to send it in. the problem went away and hasnt come back yet.
