so, .. ive been very unhappy with the sound quality of my mpc, so naturaly i decided to try useing the digital in/out.

and it works just fine until i switch the mpc's record input to digital ...

when i do that, all of a sudden i get a blast of white noise, then once i turn the input monitering off i get silence again, but all of my samples are white noise, .. including samples recorded without the digital input.

the white noise isnt a digital cable feedback loop or somthing either, .. even with the machine completly unplugged it still produces the same noise out of the 1/4 inch headphone jack.

so .. .. digital output works fine,... only when i switch the input to digital in does the thing go crazy, .. and once it has been switched, it wont stop making the noise unless i restart it ...

wtf??

useing it with a motu 828mkII soundcard bytheway

a loop was the first thing I was thinking until you mentioned that. Maybe you have your output at the wrong sample-rate? Make sure it's set to output at 44khz

check you are not outputing some sort of sync code out your spdif...be on the settings page for the card

doesn't the motu 828 output several channels through the one digital out (i.e. is it firewire and not spdif?).

but yeah, it sound most like a sample rate issue.

also, why are you unhappy with the sound quality?
