yes, but don't confuse it with some kind of effect pedal for guitars.
You just need a "punch-in, punch-out pedal" (on/off)

true, there are sustain pedals, but for the MPC you can only use a simple on/off pedal. Meaning, you step on it once, and it will be "on" untill you step on it again. Get it?

According to the manual, the pedal(s) are used to duplicate buttons and/or pads on the top of the MPC 1000. Such as Start, Stop, Record, Punch-in/out, and you can assign any Pad or one of the "softkeys" below the LCD display to the footswitch(es). The only way to sustain an internal sound on the 1000 is to physically hold the pad down (assuming you've set the pad to Loop mode). I guess if you assign a looping sample to Pad 1 (for example) you could set Footswitch 1 to trigger Pad 1, and it would "sustain" as long as you hold down the switch. But there is no general MIDI sustain function such as you would have on a MIDI keyboard. You'd have to plug in an external MIDI keyboard and then plug in your sustain pedal on the MIDI keyboard. I hope I didn't misunderstand your question.
