It's amazing what a reset will do...!

So the good news is...everything is working as expected. Now the tap triggers (with a default to 120 BPM) the start-kind of a pain because you HAVE to use the tap to set the BPM. Makes sense thou...

The bad news...well the JJOS seems to have revealed the one of these pieces (I think its the Nuo) has to CLK SYNC and stop with a RX (?) CLK signal. In the top center of the screen those messages appear. Without the tap the MPC consistently 'CLKSyncs' until the time code hits 00.05.04 (screen right) before it will start.

I'm assuming this is not an alterable parameter. Since I'm not willing to use taps to change the tempo-which stays consistent through every song, meaning everyone of your songs will be 100 BPM or whatever, unless you retap...I don't think I can use this particular feature...

Umm... I really don't understand what you are saying here. Does it still start with a delay when you press START?

I only suggested using the Nuo's clock in case that had something to do with the delay.

Those JJ messages are completely normal. RX means "receive" (you can guess what "TX" stands for if you see that anytime soon). I can tell you need to brush up on midi protocol. Theres lots of free midi documents out there -- check 'em out it's worth it if you really want to work the stuff.

Sorry-reread my posting-it wasn't clear-and, admitedly, my MIDI understanding could be better.

Here's the situation...

before-delay no matter what I did.

Now-with the Nuo controling the BPM-delay only when I turn the Nuo's Tap function off (not blinking).

What I had THOUGHT was that 'Realtime Start' was independant of the MIDI clock-like the Footswitch 'play' function, or like hitting the Play button on the MPC. That was my confusion-that's why I thought I could use it like a trigger without worrying what the MIDI clock was doing-I need the MPC to not be slaved to the NUO's MIDI clock.

I guess the last question I would ask is...If the MPC will start with the NUO MIDI clock off (and it will with a delay to 00.00.05.04 on the SMPTE clock), why is there a delay-being that its only getting a signal to start-what is it 'syncing' if the NUO is not sending MIDI clock info? Is it waiting for a signal? Can I change that?

Well, the Start thing is a problem i've had too as i'd like to start an MPC1000 sequence by hitting a pad connected to a Roland TMC-6 Trigger MIDI controller (which has a Start-Stop function).

But all the MPC does indeed is to detect an 'EXT' signal and then starts after what seems to be a random time.

I've called Akai here in France and they explained to me that MPC1000 was not 'compatible' with MIDI Time Clock or something. Apparently, there's no way to control the Start/Stop function on the MPC1000 through MIDI. Only through the 2 footswitch inputs.

Interesting-glad to know its not just me...
