so ive been neglecting my 1000 for the past two months cause i went out and copped ableton live...

now im seeing why i like hardware so much so i went back to the mp today...

usually ill work on some shit... and then do the save entire memory thing... then when i come back and work on it some more... i do save entire memory again and it usually allows me to replace the file with the new one of the same name... but now im getting a directory error and it never saves it for me...

this is really **** annoying and ive already lost a beat... ive read the manual...

mabye im missing something...

any one got any tips or ideas on a better way to save shit...

thanks

are you using a hard disk? ...the cf cards are pretty shitty, saving entire memory always does the trick for me..if you dont have an HD get one ,so much less hassle than little plastic cards that dont fit in the slot properly

yo. the problem you're having is with the operating system you're using. the bug is in "data allocation" and causes the DIRECTORY ERROR bug when saving overtop old same data. ALSO, you will experience the "new folder" bug in which when you try to create a new folder after working on a beat, the MPC1000 will freeze upon creation. you have 2 choices.

1 - the new akai 2.11 has "improved error messages" whatever that means and may/may not solve this bug.

2 - the new jj os takes care of the bug and offers you a number of other features. if you'd rather just take care of the bug, the free version is available too (it's like an unending demo of the real thing, just cut back a bit. gives you a taste).

when you get the save thing hammered out, i suggest using A Live with the MPC1000. use loops on alive with the wave warper and the mpc1000 for programming 1shots and sequencing...you'll love it.

hye najrock.....did the jjos help with the saving issue. i have my autoload turned off in 2.1 and im still losing beats. usually i save once, then on the second or third save i get the directory error and then later when i actually shutt off the machine and turn it back on and load up the project file it doesnt have the latest version of my beat. please let me know if there are any differences in the problem you were having and also if the jjos is giving you any of this drama. holla.

i have run into the same problem, are you sure that when the MPC asks you if you want to replace the same files, you said yes? because if you were just doing an overwrite --or, adding to pre-existing work- and you didn't overwrite the old files, the new sequences will not be saved until the memory (I hope I'm wording this correctly).

the way to avoid this (heavily discussed and heavily documented) problem
apart from getting the JJ OS is:

to save into a NEW FOLDER *EVERYTIME* you save.

to save ENTIRE MEMORY *EVERYTIME* you save.

do this and you'll be sweet....

but just get JJ it's worth it. best US$30 i ever did spend

i havent had the chance to grab jj's os yet... i plan to soon, just been working alot...

my work around for now is just to replace existing files as previously stated...

this little bug is so **** annoying to me that i would buy jj's just to fix this feature alone.

overwriting old files is the cause of this bug - don't do this.

when you turn on yr MPC, make a new folder.

load yr shyt, work on it, save ENTIRE MEMORY to the new folder.

this is the best workaround i found.

i had this problem a lot and lost beats because of it. i managed to salvage
a couple... but it's an arduous process.

maybe just try akai 2.11 OS in the interim... it should fix this bug.
