So i have a bunch of drum breaks and loops, the only problem is a lot of them are like 120-150 bpm or something of that nature. Obviously if i timestrech it down to 85 it sounds crappy. So i've been trying to use patch phrase and for some reason it sounds choppy. I've watched the vids, i know you need a lot of zones/regions to do this. I know you can't have your zones breaking up a note. I've been messing around wiht this all day and i can't get it to sound right. How the hell can i do what i want? I need tips, suggestions, and/or other methods of doing this. It's driving me nuts.

Dude, I had the same experience as you. I have found that it works nicely if your beat is not too complex... just very very simple beat... AND, if you only slow it down a few bpms. It also works better if you are trying to speed up the beat, but slowing down just sounds like shlt.

yeah man, the shit is pretty simple, i mean it's not like it has fills or anything. The shit is pissing me off, i hope someone here as a good method of doing this so it can help us both out.

yo yo.. pp is cool but in small parts or as a loop. heres what ull need to do, either sample 1 measure or 2 measures of a loop. then add slice markers to all the hitpoints of the waveform. then convert to pp and give it the original bpm of that loop

say if u have a 2 bar loop but u dont know the tempo of it. use the deepsound calculator look for the calculator that says "To find the bpm of a loop when its length in samples is known" then use that number the calculator gives u and put that in ur pp. i always give my pp loops or pieces some decay time of 48 u can give it more but ull hear some unwanted reverbish sounds if u do

heres the link to deepsound

i've already done that, it just sounds choppy.

the reason its gonna sound chooppy is because you are just putting gaps between hits. There is no extra information, at best you are just stretching it out.

So chop. Chop the hits the the lengths you want and build a loop from scratch. You can make it fit your tempo, and layer other samples effectively to beef it up. expiriment.

MO2 gives good advice.

any beat slowed down / sped up will sound odd. EQ'ing can help, adding "noise" (i.e. sampling the bits of the loop where nothing is happening) can fill in the blanks, or you could try choosing your loops more carefully, or just get into a really wierd sounding loop, or sticking with the original tempo and writing something a bit more upbeat.

^^^ word. if its just a few bmp pictching it down will give the extra lengthe to your chops and maybe sound cool.

drum breakbeats? I have never messed with em-chop it up and beat it out yourself- why use someone else's drum beat?
