Sloooowwww USB transfers?

Is it just me and my computer or what? I'm trying to transfer about 50mb of data to my mpc via usb cable... and it's going to take 40 minutes. I have usb 2.0 devices hooked up, and speeds are fine. Is this normal due to the 5400rpm hard drive I have? I'm not writing to CF, so I figured it'd be a lot faster than this.... any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am pretty sure the 1k is a usb 1.1 device, so even though you are transfering from a 2.0 device it can only run at 1.1 speed.

that's correct.

also, windows is never quite accurate when estimating transfer time.
usually the transfer will move quicker than what windows is displaying.

but anyway, just let it transfer and grab yourself something to eat or drink, or whatever makes the time go by. :)

akai **** up not making it usb 2..............i'm sitting here transferring samples helllllllllla slow.

What kind of samples are you transferring? Drums? Vocal/instru loops?

yeah it was 2003, wtf were they doing releasing a usb 1.1 device? and again this year with the 500 unless i'm real wrong, that's 1.1 too? and the 2500

you can always get a CF card reader, which vastly diminishes the amount of time it takes the samples to get from A --> B

Thanks for all the responses... I can't believe they'd put a 1.1 usb port in there.... knowing that they have the space/adapter for a hdd to be installed. Just loading a few things over takes wayyyy too long, and by the time they make it over, I'm over it. No patience here.

CF Card Reader

Just a thought... I installed an internal card reader on my pc. it connects to the motherboard like the floppy does. I did this just for transferring sounds to the CF card. Because its an internal card reader it transfers faster than using the usb cable. Try installing when of those if yout want. They cost about $10-15$. Then you can transfer from CF to HD on the MPC.

haha,changed days innit...usb 1.1 slow!! ,clearly you've never had the joys of backing up an emu sp12 to a commodore 64 floppy disk drive...try something like 22mins of whirring and clicking and then right at the end it would tell you crc checkbit error....start again ....usb 1.1 compared to that is like being in bladerunner...you've never had it so good

It's not just Akai - The new Mboxes from Pro Tools are all USB 1 too - dear oh dear.....
