I should add a quick note on the state of my pads.
It took me 2 years of an hour or so per day
Now ALL 16 of my pads are dead !!

Has anyone considered switching to arcade-game style buttons ?
You'd sacrifice the velocity sensitivity, and they make a bit of a clicketty-clack sound. But they're made to withstand millions of hits, and it'd be kind of a neat show piece.
