memory upgrade problem

Well I returned the Centon ram that did not work at all and found a Samsung sodimm 256MB PC133 8-Chip and it came up with a screen saying:
MPC1000 bootblock ver:1.03
Boot on SODIMM memory check mode
Total memory size: 128MB
Check memory.......
Pass 1: Failed (8c000000)
The problem was found in memory
Please check the memory
System Halt.

This was after it got to 73%, I have the free jj os do I need a certain OS running for it to recognize the RAM, I had to update to 3.07 when I added my 120gb HD.

you need to read the sticky topic about RAM and buy one of the ones listed in there... I have the Kingston and have had no problems.
