Where to Start with the 1000?

Long story short my friend had a mpc1000 laying around in his room so I told him Id give him some cash for it since he never touched the thing. The MPC 1000 is now mine. However the machine is completly blank. There is nothing left programmed in the machine (samples, sounds, etc.) and nothing on his 1 gb flashcard. So I have this machine with so much capability but without a clue as to where to start. I have read this forum for about the past month and I've been diligently reading the manual but still have yet to hear a sound from it. I have a USB cable to connect it to my computer and standard headphones. Ive tried to load sounds on to the machine via the USB but everytime I have tried i have gotten an "I/O driver error" which leaves empty files on the card.
Can anyone here lend a hand and help me get some kind of music coming out of this machine. Any step in the right direction will be much appreciated. The manual and most of the information on the internet are completly useless when you are unable to load any sound or samples on the mpc. Thanks in advance, hope you can help.

hi try to format the cf-card with the mpc... (go to load menu, select the card and press window or something like that).

then re-try uploading files. Make sure your samples are wav and 44.1 kHz, 16-bit.

click on the banner adds on this forum to go to the website you can download bundles of drums and stuff. that's a good place to start. i bought the $70 kit with all the kicks, snares, claps and snaps i could ever need. then when you mess around with layering them, changing their octaves, you've got some hard hitting noisessssss! then comes in using vinyl, synths, gutiars, anything for more samples. chea chea.

Alright so I upgraded my USB drivers and Im no longer getting the "I/O device error" when I drag and drop files into the MPC. However, now it is saying that It needs to reformat the CF-card, so I allow it to reformat the card but at the end it says it is unable to complete reformating the card. So now my question is this, is the problem my CF- card? It is a Sandisk 1.0 gb CF. My buddy didnt know what was on the card or what it was used for so maybe the card is the issue?
O and Im trying to import the MPCsoundsfreekit that is a free download when you register. The file is a .WAV so I know thats correct. I have even tried to import only the kick sample in the free kit with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks again.

Oh ya and I also reformated it on the MPC. No luck. What the? Bad CF-Card?

Certainly sounds like its the card thats at fault - get a new one i'd say

Alright thanks. Ill try and pick up a new CF-card this weekend and hopefully that will allow me to get some sounds on it. Any other suggestions?
