I thought the problems were actually solved with my machine.

The glitch stutter had ceased occurring, though the OS was remaining at default factory settings - 1.03? - and still not upgrading going by Akai instructions and taking into account all your suggestions.

I was maybe willing to live with the OS being manually loaded from a memory card (which I had saved the new OS to) each time - if that would work - but then the glitch stutter came back after sampling for the first time. I sampled my software synth and assigned it to a pad where a default sound was before and the previous sound started creeping in then all hell broke loose, the preset program randomly firing off its sounds in the glitch stutter fashion. Further, certain settings were actually rotating/changing all by themselves.

I have followed all Akai procedures to the letter and taken your kindly advice on board regarding these matters but unless you cannot assign new sounds to pads where there were presets prior and some machines don't upgrade as Akai suggest, my machine is clearly not right.

I'm sending it back to the store, but thanks for all your time and help guys.

ps: Originally the glitch stutter occurred when I tried to change bar quantity - I should add, in the context of my last message, that the glitch stutter is random occurring and not directly related to bar changes exclusively and rather to anything done with the machine. I don't know if any of this is related to copying over default sounds but I think you would agree that none of it should be happening anyway.
