Clipping when tracking. Have tried everything. Please help

I have the MPC 1000 & a Focusrite Saffire LE and am trying to track into Cubase VST32 version 5.0. When I track into Cubase the drums sound great, but all of the other instruments seems to clip pretty bad. Have tried a number of things to fix this and nothing works.

1. Turn down the overall output on the MPC
2. Turn down the input levels on the Saffire LE
3. Turn the gains and levels very low on the desk mixer
4. Turn the input levels way down in Cubase
5. Use the softclip and limiter function (limiter at various levels) in Cubase
6. Tracked song all together and instruments individually.
7. Tried using only the Stereo outs and the assignable mix outs on MPC.

Am out of ideas and at my wits end. Somebody please help.

Did you just turn the main volume knob? That only affects the volume of the main outputs. Try mode + pad 10 (other) and turn down the master level there. Turning the software levels down in your pc /using a software limiter wont help you if the clipping occurs at the interfaces input. Turning down the input levels on the sapphire should help though.

Very good advice about the master level, I bet that'll do the trick!!!

Tried the overall volume with the pad 10 function. Even turned it down to -42 db and still clips. Am pretty sure it is not clipping in the mixer of the interface, as the peak levels, do not come on with either. The level meters in the Saffire also stay quite low (way below peak). This is why I think ithe clipping has something to do with Cubase
