mpc 1k

iight iight.. so i been djin for a min and now im tryin to get into this production thing. i just got my mpc 1k i kno i need to go and cop a usb cable... i have crazy amounts of records a ttx1 and a xs-8 what else would u guys recomend to produce hip hop/r &b

I would definitly recomend a bigge CF card, cuz 32mb is hard to work with. If you use lots of long samples, you could also buy some more RAM for your MPC. Besides that you got everything you need to start. Maybe later you could get yourself a keyboard.

you might want to also purchase some cd rom sound libraries, like the ones sold here at the forum...

iight yeah i mod def need some sounds.. ive played with this thing all day and killed all the preset sounds... anyway good lookin out.

Sample Cd's are a decent way to build up a sound collection but really in the end your going to want loads of vinyl. Just go digging in the crates for some ish you never dreamed you'd listen to and buy it. Then sample it till it falls apart.

Hmmm... I have nothing against thos sample cds, but I never wanted to use those. It just don't feel confortable to use samples found and prepered by someone else, and then use them to make MY OWN TRACKS. If I go and dig out the record, sample it, and make a dope track with it, I get 100% satisfaction. Otherwise I don't really feel like its my track.

I feel you Effekt. But for someone just starting out it's a way to have tons of sounds at their disposal, and I never rule out any medium.... vinyl, vhs, dvd, cd, etc.

nah, you still have to dig on sample cd's, cut dope hits out of the beullsheet loops, small guitar licks out of their outright wankery, etc.

Vinyl gives me more inspirational samples though.

iight i tried to record a sample from my ttx1 straight to my 1000 and got nothing... do i have to convert it to a wav file or something? i connected the 1000 to my mixer thru the digital output on the bac..

try the manual, could be many things.

dude.....the digital output and an RCA cable are two entirely different things....you will need a 1/4" - RCA cable to connect from your MPC to a DJ line mixer. The digital out is SPDIF, it sends 1's and 0's not audio signal.

Sounds like you need to select "Digital" as the source on the Record page, it defaults to "Analog".

Not sure what you mean there... after you sample sounds, you'll be saving them as WAV, but you got to get the sounds into the MPC first. Sampling = Converting in this area.

This is the first I heard of the TTX1 - you mean the Numark turntable with the manual at http://www.numark.com/pdf/manuals/TTX.pdf ? Let me see... the S/PDIF digital out is 44100, should work if you select Digital on the MPC.
Is it the Line/Phono switch? Try Line if you haven't already...
