Noticed its ya first post.. little advice: search before posting.. like i said in a different thread.. this place is an archive of information not just a latest gossip forum... theres about a million 1000 Vs 2000 threads.. ur question is a bit more specific than that but im sure if u searched ud find the answer... this topics been covered all too often..

Ignore anybody that says a MPC will give you punchy drums, basically they are an idiot that cant engineer.

i've owned the MPC60, MPC2000, MPC2000xl and worked with a 3000 a few times....there's my credentials.
the 1000, is punchy and reminds me of the MPC60's tonal character, or atleast more so than any other MPC. the 1000 is a brighter and cleaner sound and i'm not just talking about the 12bit verses 16bit and so-forth. i find it is definitely richer in the high-end than the low-end. that's not to say there's no bass. i found on my MPC60 having to add high-end (pre sample). the 60 always was dirty and low. the 1000 has bottom but i've never had to add highs to enrich the sound.
as far as what it sounds like in comparison to the 2000, well i never liked the way the 2000 series sounded. i was constantly eqing and filtering to get big, crisp drums. for me the only feature i miss in the 2000 series is the editing options (zones, slicing, reverse etc...).
the 1000 is a great machine, with good tonal character. actually all of Akai's machine are excellant. many incredible albums have been written on the whole Akai line. it's easy to get lost in stupid shit and forget that none of these machine have a talent button. discipline, practice, reading your manual, digging, and dedication will go much further than ....(fill in the blank with whatever gear lust you have).
