sunday my cf died, everytime i insert a card the screen GOES BLANK AND THE DAMN MACHINE STARTS BUZZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm half way thru a album and im strapped for cash but oh well, any ideas!!???? i think im going to get the harddrive with that i can by pass the CF right????

It's an internal short-circuit, for sure. Not electronically healthy. Check to see if the pins are bent and touching one another. Otherwise some other part of the receptacle (molded plastic parts etc) may have broken.

It's a good thing it only happens when you put the flash in -- until whatever broke breaks some more. Might want to get that attended to one way or the other but yes in the meantime you could get away with a hard drive.

yes... these pins seem to bend on their own all the time... i'm sure it has nothing to do with people forcing their compact flash cards in there or inserting them upside down or the sort...

the guiding slot mechanism of the card reader is awkwardly positioned. takes a bit more consideration than one would necessarily think, unlike a camera or in-computer card reader, where they slide in more easily.
