Help on Sampling in MPC1000..Mono ? why

This is stupid, so check this, I do simple sampling from the out of a laptop or ipod's (1/8 inch)cable -->split into 2 [1/4's] so i can get both channels. Why is it that this just records in mono, Like I am really trying to get the whole stereo out of a sample and it only records into as mono even with both qt inches in............. Im sorry if this sounds dumb, im just not getting it

Its all good sir. I stumbled across a similar issue a while ago. Your splitter is also splitting the sound up. Its breaking the stereo channels into 2 channels which you already know. I did most of my early stuff with mono samples until I ran into this issue. Now I have a stanton c304 cd turntable and I use the digital out/in for it and the mpc. Somehow that rca connection carries a stereo signal (Left & Right). Check to see if your laptop has a digital output. If it does then your good. If not then Im not sure. You might have to invest in some sort of pre amp with a single 1/4 stereo input that has a stereo bus or a set of stereo outs. Better yet anything with a set of stereo outs.

If you want it bad enough you'll get gorilla style with it and find something. When I started I was sampling CD's straight out of my momz dvd player, using the TV to monitor the tracks. Get Grimey use the microwave or something Lol!

laptop 1/8 female stereo -> 1/8 male stereo splitter to 2 x 1/4 male MONO (2 peices of metal on each connector).

I bet both your 1/4 inch connectors have 3 metal parts each don't they? That would mean they are both stereo.
MPC Sample input is MONO for each female 1/4 input. Meaning you need 2 x 1/4 male MONO plugs.

Man appreciate the help really, but now im confused, are you saying that i need to connect my laptop to another pre amp-which will have 2 [1/4 inch] outputs? then that will connect to my mpc1000....by the way when you buy the jj os, how long does it take before you get your password, I bought it paypal last wednesday and no word yet

Laptop is usually 1/8 male stereo out correct?

1/8 male stereo out -> split cable to 2 male mono RCA's.

2 male mono rca's to 2x rca female mono to 1/4 male adapters into mpc.

why not skip a step and just go straight from 1/8" stereo to 1/4" L/R ?

though the original post indicates that this is already being done

so maybe the problem is that the setting in the record screen is set to record in mono rather than stereo
