dumb memory questions?

1. the manual says the unit has 16M ram, is this the 'INTERNAL' memory option when you go to load / save stuff? YES/NO

2. In case the answer to no.1 is yes, when i go to load it says wave free = 9.4M, seq free = 1664K, size of all seq/songs = 250K which only adds up to approx 11.25M so where's my other 4.75M?? (the OS?)

3. In case the answer to no.1 is yes, the manual says you lose data stored in this memory and that you have to save to the flash card (pg. , but you can also save to this memory so what's it on about?

RAM is not memory.

the unit does have 16mb internal memory as default... (i think it's 16 anyway..)

and it comes with 16mb RAM default.


RAM is your available workspace --- this is blanked when you turn the unit off.

you have to load things from the memory, work on them in the RAM, then save them back to
the memory.

4. Also, can you increase your internal memory? (other than buying a 2.5" drive). i know you can increase ram, but can you increase the INTERNAL memory?

are you saying the internal memory IS the same memory location as what is refered to as RAM in the manual? OR are you simply saying that the internal memory is also a form of RAM, but is a separate memory location from what the manual refers to as RAM?

RAM stands for Random Access Memory

thanks lampdog i know what ram is.....wat i was trying to ascertain is whether RAM and INTERNAL memory are 2 separate physical entities within the MPC, from what you say above they are, so many thanks.

media/cf/usb are actually mediums through or on which to store data but in context they are not mutually exclusive from memory like you are seeming to make out.

so the question still remains, why do i only have 11.25M internal memory? i guess its because the remaining 3.75M is taken up by the os, anyone care to confirm?

and for the record, unless the INTERNAL memory saves to disc which i SERIOUSLY doubt, it will also be RAM, RAM just means random access it can be volatile or otherwise, flash drives are RAM but it is non volatile so you dont lose the data........and checking the manual pg93 first paragraph it confirms that the internal memory is flash memory, so it is ram (weirdly a type of EEPROM although not in the common sense).
