This may sound like an ingnorant question but, I have my mpc slaved to my newly purchased tascam dp-02 portastudio and I'm trying to record one of my songs onto a track, but it isn't recording. I'm running from midi in on the mpc to midi out on the tascam, monitoring through headphones and I can hear it just fine, but after I record and press play to playback, nothing, whats the problem? I've heard something about the midi just sends data, im not sure what that means. So pretty much Im just asking how do I record my songs from my mpc 1000 onto the tascam dp-02. Thanks for the help.

I use a tascam dp 01, but its the same theory....
Your tascam send out TIMECODE in the from of a Midi Click, this keeps your MPC in time with the live tracks on the Tascam, so you can press play on the recorder and have your MPC stuff play in time with it, the advantage being that you can play the mpc in real time while your live tracks (e.g. vocal performances) stay in time with it.

I think for the operation you are describing, if I have understood your question properly, does not need a Midi connection, if all you want to do is record finished MPC songs, just hook the audio outs of the MPC to the inputs of your tascam, hit record on the Tascam, then play on the MPC and you're off. press stop when you're done.
Hope this helps and i haven't missed the point of your question...Good luck!
