Is This Normal?? Tempo button held with F3 or F4

Hi everyone, just bought an mpc1000 about a week ago and have noticed that when I hold down the tap tempo button and press F3 or F4 other buttons light up such as the numeric key or Qslide button?? Is there a point to this or is it just a normal problem?? Or is my machine faulty?
When I hold the tempo and F3 and then press the numeric key a screen comes up a bit like the "mute track" screen but you cant seem to mute tracks by pressing the pads...hope that makes sense. Just wondered if other people could give it a go and see if this is normal.. Thanks in advance, Mark

should be normal, mine does that too... i didn´t even notice it before..
