Pad Failures

How long would users of the first 1000 model say it takes for pads to begin malfunctioning?

I just bought the unit for $600 - a fairly good deal - but I am concerned about A) how soon I will need to purchase the Akai pad fix; B) whether I will have the funds to pay for the pad fix; and C) how long the pad fix will take to ship. Knowing generally how long it takes for pads to fail would slightly ease my anxiety.

This is far beyond well worn territory here -- just check the archive. Beyond what's already been posted there is no simple answer to your question, and if you bought a used unit with the old style pads how would you even be able to tell how much use they had already gotten?

BTW my 2004 run unit still has all pads working as well as they did when I got it, but that might be because I hardly ever use them for anything besides switching modes as they basically suck for playing (I was too spoiled by the 2000xL pads). I use external midi instead.

Thanks for the response. My 1000 was bought after being used only a few times, so I'm hoping it will have durability similar to yours.
