**Greetings - i need H E L P !!! **
Hi everyone , here is what is probably a really basic question with (hopefully) an easy answer. But I guess I'm just a little confused as a result of some of the other samplers that I've used before getting into the MPC 1000.
How do I make a sample to loop continuously until I stop it from playing by hitting its pad? Before the AKAI, I used some Roland (groove workstation)-type samplers which, after assigning your (pre-trimmed) sample to one of the pads, you had the option of setting up the playback of that sample for "one-shot" (also known as "gate") and full-on LOOP playback - a beautiful, seamless loop - until you once again hit the pad (or via MIDI, external sequencer, etc.) to "TURN OFF" the looping sample. Get it?
So lets say I have a synth loop lifted from a WHO record & I want to play this wicked cool loop for some as-of-yet undetermined length of time (I am purely an improvisational performer - I make it all up on the fly - except for sample mapping beforehand...)
Can I just hit a track/sample pad on the 1000 and have my (trimmed) WHO riff play over and over and over??
OR ... do I have to take this sample and record it into a sequence every 2 bars or so? This would suck (I think) because, what if I wanted to solo/improvise over the loop for 15 minutes or more? Would I have to sequence this entire 15 minutes of loop playback 2 BARS AT A TIME??
Please help; I hope that I am just ovelooking something jeuvenile and obvious. Please tell me my ROLAND SP-202 isn't MORE user-friendly than my legendary AKAI!!!
thanks,
Chris
