When I say I cannot audition samples, I mean that I cannot hear it.

Yes to all of the above.

I'm almost positive it is an issue with the CoreAudio driver. The driver allows other apps to be able to play audio through DigiDesign hardware, but it has only been tested on major programs such as iTunes, Recycle, etc.

I will try later to use MPC187 without my Digi hardware on, thus using my internal soundcard.

If DigiDesign does something to CoreAudio, that may be the problem. To play the samples I use NSSound, which first tries CoreAudio, then QuickTime if CoreAudio fails.

Let me know how the app works without the digidesign stuff.

I just did a quick search on Apple's site and it looks like even Final Cut Pro has problems with the DigiDesign hardware. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93260

They suggest: "In the Sound pane of the Mac OS X System Preferences, switch the sound output device to "Built-in audio controller."

If the issue persists, remove the Digidesign audio card."

But they also note that "Updating to Mac OS X 10.3 Panther should also address this."

Didn't get a chance to check last night, but I will later on in the evening (Pacific time). I am almost positive it will work fine when I switch to built-in audio.
