muting out a track during the middle of a sample

i got like a 4 second vocal sample that i got punchin in every 8 bars and ever now and then i wanna cut the sample short ,i tryed muting out the track right when i wanna cut out the rest and it still plays,any way to do this

What about setting that sample to "Note on" so that it only plays as long as the pad is held down?
Another alternative might be to take a blank pad and then assign them both to the same mute group within the program; then you could hit the blank pad to mute the sample on the fly.

yer - pretty sure that if a sample is set to note on then when you mute the track it will cut the sample off.... but i'm at work so can't dubble check
