What is the myth about the MPC sound ?

jus gonna chime in on this interesting topic...
i love the mpcs sound more than any drum machine or keyboard i have come across for hiphop. maybe they are arguments to this but my point being i like it.
i think the mpcs dont necessarily effect the sample itself moreso than doin a good job of summing of audio. it almost feels like the mpc is giving an area to each of your samples. maybe i am just wierd for thinking this but i feel that it almost gives you a "mastering" of your samples in the box that transfers to tape.it also gives me confidence for some reason....almost like an album ready track feeling. you can envision the song and get pumped up you have a tight beat. thats why i think most hip hop producers feel they dont need much eq or compression on their mpc tracks. cuz they feel like its almost "album" ready. just adjust the levels and maybe eq and compress the vocal into the pocket.
maybe its the sample engine and maybe i be high but it is indeed ill.

a couple years ago, when I bought my 2000xl, I did a comparision. Signal path was:

sampleCD--->patchbay [mult] ---->mpc3000 rec. inputs
[mult] ---->mpc2000xl rec. inputs

I sampled the same Kick, Clap, Stabs into both. I tried to do the same trim on both (I figured I'd also test the fabled 3000 timing difference) and played a very simple pattern into both. The outputs of both MPCs piped into a 16bit 882 i/o recorded into ProTools 4.1 16bit 48kHz.

After normalizing both I ran the Waves PAZ feq Analyzer plugin on both and upon comparing them, the only differnce was a very tight margin in 220-350 hz range, I didn't take screenshots, and its been a couple years.. but the Analyzer called them pretty much the same. However eyes closed, randomly soloing the two .. all 3 of us picked the mpc3000 out to be the better sounding of the 2 machines, it just seemed to sound a tiny bit chunkier. I had intended to isolate the exact freq difference and try to work out a curve to make up for the difference , but honestly I don't think the difference was enough to warrant spending any time on since. Maybe that evening , but we were feeling our test groove, so we worked on the music rather than get supa-techy on it.
