Ok I'm having somewhat of a major issue here. I have a black MPC 1000, the HDM10, and two of the approved HDs on the list (both new - MP0804H and MK4026GAX). I've tried installing both (separately and I can hear them start up when I start the MPC, however I can't get the MPC to recognize either HD. I tried with the new AKAI OS as well as the JJ and neither one works. When I go to "Format" the only option I have is "Memory Card." I can't scroll to Hard Drive since that doesn't pop up as an option. I've never had a problem with my MPC....anyone have any ideas? This is quite frustrating!

Thanks in advance!

Ok so I'm still having issues with this, but it may be interesting to note that when I change OSs the MPC recognizes a FAT 16 drive during the boot up. Not sure if that means it's recognizing the hard drive or not. Any tips?

I just took out my 80 gb hard drive from my late 2007 macbook and replaced it with a 320. Now will this 80 gb hard drive work with my mpc-1000? It is a Hitachi 2.5 inch, Model #HTS541680J9SA00 don't know the pin though. But do you think this will work?

What's goin on guys? Can someone give me a little background info on what I can do if I install a harderive. Currently my cf drive isn't working so I can't access samples on my cf card. Need some help as it's left me in a whole wondering what to do next. Cheers. Chux.

Any PATA or IDE should do fine. PATA is the interface type and the number is the data rate, starting at 33 and going on to 166. Just make sure you don't get an SATA drive.

BTW I installed a drive last week which is working flawlessly and I don't think it's on the confirmed list:
it's a 160 Gb Samsung Spinpoint M5 HM160HC. As with others i've read about on this board it only reads 127 Gb out of the full 160 Gb.

Hm.. that's interesting. I wonder where the difference lies. I formatted mine while running JJ OS2; what did you use? Not that i'm really bothered about it as it'll take a while to fill the 127 Gb have.

did you ever figure this out? I'm thinking of replacing my macbook pro's hard drive with a larger one, and then using that one for my mpc 2500. let me know!

Halo all!! my case:

i try HDD HITACHI Travelstar 60GB model: IC25N060ATMR04-0 and DID NOT WORK! Do not buy this model for your MPC!!!

I buy Hitachi Travelstar HTS541080G9AT00 80GB from ebay (£36) and all is OK!!!

peace yall , i was just wondering about the harddrive kit for the mpc 1000 , it looks like only akai produces those since its size and specifications are consistent with the mpc , but cant i get them anyplace else (copmuter stores,etc..)

another question , what are the ram specifications for the memory upgrade on the 1000 , if i ripped some ram from an old laptop ,would it b compatible with the mpcs 1000 ?
thanks

Like a fool I think I noted down the wrong model number judging by the first post, but I just got my drive bay and installed the 80gb drive from my defunct Powerbook G4, and it worked just fine after it had been formatted. It's a Toshiba and the number I jotted down was HDD2188. I think it's actually an MK8025GAS, which is in the list on the first post, but in case anyone's wondering about busting open a dead Powerbook to get at the drive, or upgrading their Powerbook drive and reusing the old one in their 1L, it just worked for me.
