just need a little help

hey whats up peoples just wondering if i could get a bit of help from yall ive had my mpc for awhile now and bin sampling mad learnt all da good stuff wit chopping samples etc but i admit ive bin a lazy ass an been using library drums an its about time i stepped it up an started chopping filtering breaks an so on im not asking for anyones secret producto techniques just sum help were to start how to etc

nym has a great video that showcases chopping (fast chopping at that) on the mpc 1k on youtube.

filtering is entirely up to you. and i recommend the alesis philtre (can only be found used) its a digital effect and a very good priced one a that. it has high, band, low pass filters with other options for tweaking.

edit forgot to mention that nym's video is for the jjos but it can def help ya out.

PRACTICE!!!!!

if you guys that are just starting would spend as much time on the mp/fl/name your favorite beatmaking tool, as you spend searching for these "secret production techniques", you might get good. there are no secrets. either you learn music and your tool, or you hunt for secret techniques on forums and youtube. **** forums and youtube! practice and learn your chops YOUR way. not someone elses.

once you get the basics, then check the manual/forums/youtube to accomplish whatever creative thing that you think of to get the sound the way you want. but to just ask "what are your secrets", and then sit around waiting for that magic post that is going to release your inner (insert favorite producers name here), your **** up already. your favorite producer probably didnt sit around looking through forums and tutorial videos on how to make beats. they probably didnt even have that option, and they still made it happen.

practice practice practice, unplug the internet cable and practice for like a month straight and write down questions that you come up with. i guarantee that if you keep working at it you will figure it out on your own. you will be at work or school or whatever you do and it will hit you and then you will grow. stop waiting for handouts and get to work!!!!!

There's nothin wrong with askin questions. Even the stupid ones, they only seem dumb cause you allready know the answer.... There are no stupid questions.
I know all of you didn't pick up your MPC and instantly know how to use to the fullest.

all i suggested is that he just do it and figure out stuff until he hits a brickwall.

i didnt know the mp to the fullest at jump, but i did push it as far as i could until i had to ask.

im no new commer to the mpc i can chop up a sample like a samurai etc like i said i dont want anyones secret production techniques just a steppin stone or a small nudge in the right direction with chopping an making drum breaks sound nice just gettin tired of usin library drums gets a bit stale namean and i agree wit u skinny **** readin the manual its to big i reckon you learn way better watchin someone else

so dont front i put in work on my mpc an i dig like a fiend but im just not schooled up on nice filters and ish dat all an when i experiment it just dont sound right to me aint askin for no handouts just sum mutual mpc family luv

nah, your not being rude, and i wasnt trying to be either. i guess the point i was trying to make is that, at least for me, i read the manual over and over. yeah, it didnt make sense, but thats because i didnt know shit about an mpc. but i read, experiment, read, made a ishtty beat, read, experimented and so on. i feel that i put in my time. i put in my work. so when someone says they want that first bit of help to get started, and they dont want to read the manual, what do you expect? i didnt read it to interpret it for the next man. i read it so that i would understand it. and thats why my answer is read the manual.

but its not just reading the manual either. like skinny said, i myself, and im sure the rest of the cats here could say the same thing, didnt know how to chop a break the first time i fired up my biatch. i used library samples and felt that they were pretty stale too. so i decided to chop a break, and it sounded like ish. so i rechopped it, still ish. it took me awhile to figure it out, but i can chop the hell out of some breaks now. at least i think i can.

so it goes back to what i said in my first post. practice until you get stuck, then read the manual because chances are that the answer is there. if not, ask. and you realize that you dont have to read the manual cover to cover. start with the sections you understand, then the ones you kind of understand. once you have the ones that you kind of understand down, read the ish you dont understand and just do what it says. you will get it eventually.

illogik just get some fat breaks on vinyl, they give you that old skool sound.if its the sound your strugglin with... most people dont filter their drums a whole lot, maybe just a little to darken them up a bit
