I've known a few guys over here to buy a 500 and get it shipped over here (I'm here too).

They love it. Just do it.

Did you reload the OS?
What OS are you running?
Maybe the unit is a pacifist and doesn't believe in war?

could be water/liquid damage from the way you describe things.

hmm...doubt there's any techies around who could give this **** an autopsy. as far it's being a pacifist, maybe i do need to kick it to the curb cuz i'm trying to bring war to the table!!! (in my room)
i've been reading alot of things about the 500. i'm just kinda worried about it being a **** to navigate thru. i don't need a headache trying to sketch a beat. but it looks kinda cool & from what the features read, it'll be a str8 deal.
THANKS ALOT FELLAS!
love, peace & chickengrease

Yeah, sandstorms will pretty much ruin your day. What did you find, like a HUGE wall of sand coming towards a building, yeah, it happens, there's no running, no closing the windows, nothing will stop that sand from getting anywhere and EVERYWHERE...

Sandstorm season is over right now, it's winter..

I would def make sure it is running a good OS, and also make sure any add ons are installed correctly (I.E memory and such)... And as mentioned, crack it open and take a look inside to make sure there are no stuck buttons...

Good luck over there.... If you decide to go with the 500, it should get the job done for you.

Just check the 1k to see if anything is obvious.
You never did reply about your OS version and if you reloaded it.

I would also suggest that before you go for a 500 you check out the 500 forum.
They have certain personality flaws that can be annoying becauseof certain programming corners Akai cut.

I'm still not sure how effective the 12 pad to 16 pad works. I did some stuff on my 500 and when i took it to the 1k it muted Pad 4 for track mute.
Ok not to bad until you discover it will not let you unmute that track no matter what you do???
Also the 500 doesn't have 32 voices because it gives up voices based on other functions so you get shortened polyphony for things without realizing it.

The most important thing about the 500 is if you have used other things with small simple displays it's not to bad to jump on.
However if you are the computer screen or wav view person it may not seem fun.

Again read the 500 forum and they make a decision.

i doubt it's the operating system cuz it was acting janky before. i had just installed the jj os not too long ago. i'm kinda wishy on opening the joint up cuz i don't want to jack it up any more. if push comes to shove i'll just cop another one or the 5.
as far as the 500 i was wondering, if you made a program on the 2kXL, saved it, dropped it on the 5, then loaded it up, what happens to the 4/16 pads you're missing?
btw, i am a computer screen/wav view type dude. wish i could get a hold of one over here & try it out b4 i buy. f*ck it, i'mma go w/ Lamp & just Nike the shit.
preciate it.

the other 4 pads, I don't know, hopefully a 500 user that has done that can answer up.
Maybe you have to manually assign those notes to another bank.

You can always sell off the 500 later on if you don't like it. And get the 1k back.

But if your a graphic wave editing type person, your feelings are gonna get hurt, lol.

But use your ears and the numbers on the screen and you'll be fine, text editing aint bad as alot of people claim.

Lamp what I'm talking about is not the dropped pad, it actually muted a pad in the bank and won't let it unmute.
The channel data is still their it just won't allow you to play it????
I have taken many sessions back and forth with no problem until this.
Between that happening and that crazy ghost sample drop out the 500 does sometimes I have just sat it to the side.
If I had problems going from the 500 to 1k than I can only imagine the trouble trying to go from the 500 to my 4k.

Shaman, the 1k may just be the easiest MPC to disassemble, you can remove the top cover by removimg the 3 screws across the rear, 3 across the bottom front edge, 1 beside the CF drive, and 2 underneath that cover.
There are even some U-Tube vid's showing how to do it.
It's really good that it's like that since people have top do the pad swaps.
