losing the punch when i record to pc

i recorded a really hard hittin punchy beat from my mpc and when i play it on my pc it sounds like sum1 raped it of its bump ,im going out of the strereo outs of the mpc into the line in of a eurack into my sound card,any suggestions

try recording into mono.

YOU GOTTA BURN UR TRACK TO A NON CPU CD BURNER THEN PUT THE CD IN THE CPU DRIVE AND RIP IT THATS ALL THATS WHAT I DO..

yeah i get the same thing. it's the analog-digital converters (aka your sound card). recording the mpc makes it go thru a digital conversion so yer losing a little bit of fidelity. it's one generation's loss. even good ADC's/DAC's do that a little.

it's also the difference between the way the outputs sound on the mpc and the outputs on your soundcard. the mpc's DAC's sound really beefy. i love how my jazz bass sounds thru the mpc's inputs too.

Bring the levels of the recording back up with nomalizing your files in sound forge or wavelab and add some Processing like punch effect in wavelab.

Also all user should complain to akai to add a trax export/render to .wav function in the next OS update, so we do not have to be concerned with fidelity loss because of rerecording through ADC's/DAC's and that crap.

probably not. i dont. wutever program ur recording into. just record thru mono.

mono has nothing to do with it so you should stop telling him that. in fact, depending on his samples it could make it even worse.

understand that the punch is there to begin with because your mpc souonds better than your soundcard. remove the mpc and you remove the good sound. unless you have really good converters on your computer

i record everything mono right into sound forge. and i see a difference between mono and stereo. and i have good punch to my beats.

Why not mix it down in the MPC with the record from main outs function. Then you can import it into the computer with the USB, do what you need in the computer and burn it directly (or re import to the MPC with USB).
That way you have never used your sound card and thus have preserved the punch.
Thats what I do.

its all about converters....unless you have top notch digital converters (ie. RME, Apogee) you are basically going to be degrading the sound no matter what you try when tracking into your computer...it has absolutely nothing to do with stereo or mono...all that means is whether it has 1 channel or two...nothing to do with sound quality or punch.....to get a better sound with the gear you have just keep trying different techniques and such...play with your overall levels, compression and eq and just experiment to see what settings sound the best on a consistant basis and then go from there....also if you are using an analog mixer like you mentioned it will make your sound quality better in the long run if you mix it right..I use an Allen Heath mixer and then track from that to my soundcard....however if you are using a digital mixer and passing it through the mixers converters you are again downgrading the quality...

Anyone ever try DIGITAL OUTS? No conversion involved...straight from the Akai into your PC. And don't think about using your damn soundblaster to do your mixing/mastering!! Go get a simple 4in/4out w/SPDIF box (external) that's not USB powered (ie-has it's own power supply). maudio, echo, hammerfall, ...that's where it's at. EQ it in the mix to bump your bass just how you like it.

Have you tried connecting a BBE sonic maximizer to your outputs? Some cats told me it livens up the sound a bit...

yo 2nite was my first time trying to convert some mpc beats thru mbox to PC/CD. oh my god!! was i pissed when i heard the crappy sound.
if i got sumthing like a TDK Audio CD-R/RW Recorder, will it still lose quality if i burn strate from the mpc/mixer to the cd recorder?

damn i didnt even know i could mix down to one file in the mpc and transfer to pc, what if i have a 2 bar loop and i want to have a track muted at certain points,can i record to one file in real time and have it looped however long i want or can i only mix down those 2 bars as is, im askin if i can do it this way cuz i havent gone to in depth with the manual yet i still dont know how to copy patterns from bars and paste them into other bars ., once i figure that out ill just make them songs with diffrent patterns instead of 2 bar loops,but is there any way to do it like i ssaid be4
