That Tap Tempo/Note Repeat..... why oh why?

(apologies if this has come up b4 but i'm new to these realms)

Is there any way of locking the tempo on the MPC? Its very easy to get carried away jammin out hits over a song with the note repeat and accidentally double tap the button....and accidentally change the WHOLE tempo of the sequence with often disatrous effect, especially if using loops in the tune

Course it don't matter when in the confines of my bedroom but if this EVER happens on stage I'm gonna be a touch embarassed

any suggestions?

And then you f*cked up the whole vibe!!!!! man! thats like the dream of being in front of an audience naked. I dont know of a locking feature, but that would be cool. Hey gecko do you play live often???? whats your technique? I'll be doing beats at a festival this summer, and Im trying to gather as many ideas as possible

i had this happen many times already and it took me awhile to figure out why the tempo would jump down to 40 seemingly without notice

i hope akai adds some sort of disable for the tap. anyone on the board work for akai or know where we can all send email about fixing this glitch ?

also another imortant thing would be the ability to change ALL the tempos of all patterns while in play mode. all my stuff is loop free and tempo-independent because i love/need to change tempo as a live set progresses. prettty much i have to master-clock elsewhere which sucks cause the MPC clock rocks.....

Yo man thats hot sh!t right there! I can respect that. I never thought of making my beats in such a way that i could change the tempo on the fly and it still sounds right. you da man. thanx!

duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude, FORGET about phrase sampling. its all about drum programming with individual hits.

you could recycle or hand chop up phrases into beats and reconstruct them, BUT the real sh:t is playing it like a drummer on the pads. its all about the pads. guaranteed freshness and original too when you do it that way.....

This used to happen to me all the time but I learnt to play it as is. The trick is to be safe you never let your finger off the tap tempo button. Press and release the pads at will but never release pressure of the tap tempo. You have to do it that way and once you get used to it, it is no big deal and becomes second nature. Give it a go. I go hard and fullon with it and have never had any problems or lessening of what I want to achieve since using this method. It is like if you want a tight hihat sound when playing a real kit, don't take yout foot off the hihat pedal. Simple. Good Luck.

well, its a good thing that when i play my pads like a drummer, i dont use note repeat. Left hand for hi hat/ open hi hat, right hand for kick and snare, either hand for a crash or somethin else thrown in there

can you have the note repeat go at a tempo fater than the ret of the song or do you need to put thhe tempo to really fast and just play your other part of the song at regular speeds?

you can change the quantize of the note repeat. 1/32 is gonna be sound fast on a beat with 90bpm. it stays on beat though

machine gun ish. You can mess with the swing to make it sound more rhythmic.
