Audio Interface Necessary To Hook MPC To Comp?

Is an audio interface necessary to hook the MPC up to my computer? I have a MIDI to USB cable, wondering if that would work. BTW, Im trying to sync MPC to FL or Reason.

No, you dont "need" one but its a more practical solution to get your beats into the comp. Not sure if the USB to MIDI cable will work, if the USB side is for the MPC it definitely wont. If its the other way around im not sure.

Keep in mind Im not trying to just transfer files from the MPC to comp and vise versa. I wanna sync the MPC and Reason or FL. Sounds like some trial and error might have to be in store.

My answer was accurate. The audio interface is more practical if you want to get beats in the MPC.

Now the adapter MAY work but it definitely wont work if the USB side of it is connected to the USB port on the MPC. The USB port on the MPC does not support MIDI.

You through me with the USB into MPC talk. Its the other way around. The chord hooks from the MIDI of the MPC to the USB of the computer.

This brings up a question I've wondered about for a while. I have a soundcard, but if I sample something from my computer I usually just get lazy and sample from the headphone jack... Am I losing a lot of sound quality doing this?

nah. it aint like the sound is that important for what youre doin.

first, is 24 bit recording really necessary? i know the mpc just samples in 16 bit but is there really a difference in recording the final track in 24 bit?

related to that, what kind of outputs should i use? i heard from a friend that xlr connections are the least noisy and are best for recording so i got some 1/4 to xlr converters to use. is there really any difference?

I do my work in 16 bit being that I mainly use digital connections. As fas as the XLR thing...well buying the adapters/converters are kind of a waste. The cleanest signal is going to be the SPDIF since you avoid the conversion. If you choose to stay with an analog connection (which gives good results as well) just make sure you are using balanced cables they are wired the same way as the XLR's

i checked the specs and it says that the mpc's outs are all unbalanced, so would using balanced lines make any difference?


on a related tip, how do you use the spdif output exactly?what interface are you using?
