the fact that the mpc1000 needs an immediate memory upgrade to function properly is absolutely fukkin ridiculous. Insufficient memory from the get go. what a fukkin joke. thats like buying a car but then having to buy the motor seperately. its unbeleivable.

i have a 256mb ram chip(which equals 128mb once installed) on the way in the mail. is that gonna be enough or am i eventually gonna need to buy a million gig hd?

is 128 mb ram enough with lots of cf cards for storage?

you got the ram issue only, cause you directly start with the 1k..... in my opinion for starting 16 mb is more than enough...
this 128mb thing is only for people that are to lazy to organize their internal memory. and you will see, that you will work with short samples.... people that started with the mpc 60 only had 1.5mb ram.... and they still could make dope beats....

had anyone problems here, that 128mb is not sufficient???

Your wrong.
Learn how to manage your samples and memory. You need to stop trying to load everything under the sun into
your machine. Classics have been made on 16mb and lesser so your thinking is very flawed, right from the gate.

oh so you think im trying to load everything under the sun do ya? a drum loop that i chopped up and a ten second sample that i chopped up. and i get insufficient memory? come on. dont act like its not bulls#it. insufficient memory to save 16 0.5 second samples to a program and run'em across the pads come on!! ok lampdog so what do you mean then by manage my samples and memory? im not trying to be sarcastic either. its hard to type with tone of voice. thanks.

break it down like this.........how many "unique" drum hits are in that loop. Three maybe four sounds.? so u don't need 32 slices or whatever......


ten seconds.......and its larger than 16mB....? that seems pretty large honestly.

Chop the loop and then delete the original sample, so all you have left is the chops.... Managing samples means deleting what you don't need.

16MB of sample RAM is over three minutes of sample time in mono, and over one and a half minutes if you sample in stereo.

And you get more bees with honey...

Glad to help.

And that's another good suggestion by dcook.

Back in the day I used to sample records at 78BPM and then pitch them down. It was a nice way to stretch the 2.5 seconds of sample time in my SP 12 up to about 7-8 seconds. Makes 16MB look like a luxury...

You can pitch the sample up in the MPC, resample, delete the original, and then pitch the new sample down.

In my opinion, what's uncool about the 16mb is not the amount of RAM itself but the fact that you can easily get INSUFFICIENT MEMORY message when doing timestretch or chopping.

Anyway you can get the 128mb extension for ultra cheap nowadays so there's nothing much to complain about.

but it makes it a long arduous process, especially these days where we sometimes need to load a lot of things into the machine in order to save time and try things out. 16mb is about half of the minimum they should have given, in my opinion. and i can appreciate the anger the poster feels as i was a little bit annoyed at the cheapness of the manufacturer considering we don't live in an era where we can survive with a crappy 16mb!

16mb dude, that's nothing!

*edit* just remembered that the other day i used a sample that was 33mb, and your probably wondering what the **** i would have sampled and what kind of noob i am. truth is i was working on an epic intro, it was a long sample of this spanish woman singing and i had it playing in the background. 16mb! leave it for the cavemen.

Compared to many strange and obviously wrong statements in this thread the above is not that bad, although very strange.

Please explain why we in "these" days have a greater need to load a retarded amount of samples into RAM and why the people of (what I guess is) "those" days didn't have that need.

Well, apart from the obvious fact that we can do it these days which is a direct consequence from the fact that a sampler "these" days comes with 16 mb (expandable to 128 mb) stock RAM as opposed to 2 mb (expandable to 32 mb) which were the fact in "those" days I got my first Akai.

One more thing that might support your thesis is that most people seem to have one or more of different kinds of attention disorders "these" days, which probably explain the need as well as the basis of this whole thread.

Sounds like the disappointed duo should look into computers.
