here's what i'm trying to do hopefully

i'm getting a triton rack, which i want to control via midi using the mpc, which i want to control with my midi controller?

in other words i wanna go:

midi controller OUT to
mpc IN to
mpc OUT to
triton rack IN

then on the triton i'll use the Stereo OUTS going INto my Delta44, so i when i play from the mpc, the sounds will play/record live off the triton

No, the MPC 1k does not have a MIDI thru port, but, yes, it can do what you want.

if it doesn't midi thru, how can i hear the notes off the triton?

the triton has midi thru, i guess i'll have to go the other way, it should produce the same results right?

No, you alomost got it right first time, just try the following:
- on the MIDI page, set Soft Thru to "As Track"
- back on the main page, select a Track and change its MIDI settings to suit the Triton: e.g. 1A means Channel 1 on MIDI Out A.
Then, what you play then gets routed according to the selected Track settings. If you choose a Program for that Track, you can play the MPC1000 samples too. That setup is also ready for recording straight away.

hmm...ok

so is the soft thru on the mpc, something similar to a thru port??

i've read the manual several times, and it doesn't really go in depth on what Soft Thru does

It's like a "smart" thru port, done in software. I use "as track" because it re-routes the MIDI as the selected track dictates. My master keyboard sends MIDI on channel 1 only, but the MPC1000 can reroute that to any of 16 channels x 2 outs and/or the MPC's sample engine.

If I keep Track 1 selected, then change Sequences (including via Song Mode) then what the master keyboard controls is switched automatically. One sequence I'm playing a module, next I'm triggering samples, etc. - whatever I choose, programmed in advance.

Disadvantage: CPU-dependent, could drag when the MPC is busy.

alright, thanks for explaining it, that sheds some light on that now

in essence there's like a thru "port" on each track, but where the midi is sent, depends on where it's programmed in the midi option of the track.....

so there's an advantage there, basically i can have like midi channel one on the triton as a Bass Synth, midi channel two as a Guitar Synth, etc etc etc then on the mpc just change each track's MIDI: option to whatever channel i want to control, and i should be able to control multiple instruments at once.......

if that's so, i'm going to get the triton today...........although i'm having second thoughs, i really like the fantom xr better, but it's more expensive

Dude, you can't go wrong with he Triton if you want to produce tracks with professional sounds. The Triton is an established sound, while the Fantom, unfortunately, has yet to prove itself. In fact, if you look at the rewiews at Harmony Central, there are two kinds: professional rewiews with technical details, and 'kiddie' reviews without any details, just descrpitions like 'this is so fat, so dope, so easy to use'. There are three reviews in particular which criticize the sampling engine in the Fantom and point out that not even Roland sponored professionals are using the Fantom range. Of course, you're opinio is what counts the most. Personally, I'm getting a Triton Rack.

Fugg a triton, I have a triton and if you want to sound like everybody else great, who cares about the sampling option if you have a MPC i could care less if the fantom sampler didnt work I dont use it anyway. I have a fantom also and sound wise it kills the triton, the triton sounds cheap and abused. The Motif and the fantom as far as sounds are killing the triton.

Well, to each their own, as the saying goes. But professionals aren't using the Fantoms. not even Roland sponsored ones. Whether or not you use the sampling option means absolutely nothing, and is not a factor in determining the value of a workstation. And as far as the Fantom sounds, they are recylced sounds from the XV series, so they too, are dated. Only the MOTIF does not have "dated" sounds, but soon they will be dated too.

It all depends on what you want. Professionals use a Triton or a Motif. Professionals also get paid for what they do.

Oh boy not this again. Professionals are not using the fantom? Really? Ushers burn was made with sounds from the fantom. So you base your life about what others tell you to use. I could give a flying **** what "professionals" are using. If you cant make a beat the equiptment wont save you. You have a pretty bad mentality. The kind that keeps music sounding the same.

By the way saying the new fantoms sounds are recycled shows you dont know what you're talking about.

Man, I'm not trying to fight, so don't get so defensive. Its a FACT that they are using the same XV engine that's been around for years. It's not my opinion it's a FACT. Since its the SAME XV ENGINE that means - logically - that the sounds are recycled from previous earlier Roland boards. Is that to say the sounds are bad? No. Is that to say the sounds are good? No. It is to say that the sounds are not new.

I don't mean to insult you Phedeks, but since you didn't properly research your purchase, you just showed that it's you who doesn't know what you are talking about.

I'm out of this thread. For those considering the Fantom line, do the research before buy.

"The Triton is an established sound, while the Fantom, unfortunately, has yet to prove itself"

So are you saying if you want to sound like everyone else and use yesterday's sounds, buy the triton? But if you want to use something that not many others have used, buy the Fantom? If you yearn to be accepted by showing that you can buy the same gear as everyone else, buy the Triton? If you want to stand out from the crowd, be different, and run against the grain, buy the Famtom?

Personally I avoid either one. Regrdless of how they sound they represent the giants of the industry. Roland and Korg are the Walmarts of the music industry feeding pop culture. Buy from a small company, like Akai with their 25 employees. There are some synth companies that have under 10 employees and I know one that had only 2.

I cant help but laugh  that you're so serious about what you're saying. Properly research my purchase. Hahah ok man. You go buy that triton maybe you can be the next chad hugo/trackboys/trackstars/neptune clone.MPC 3000 is right. I do have a couple of synths that not many people buy because they think like you. I'm actually glad there are people with your mentality it makes original sounding tracks stand out.
