Updating: batch converting 24 bit samples to 16 bit

Thinking of getting some sample packs from Goldbaby. (MPC1000/JJOS2XL).

So it appears that I'll have to be looking for an easy batch processor converting 24 bit samples into 16 bit samples (if possible free ). I use a MAC.

I did some research on this forum, but a lot of posts seem already dated (like a couple years old), it looks like some of the sofware mentioned was initially free but not anymore, some might include now various crapware, etc.

So I am wondering what is recommended these days as easiest, preferently free, MAC compatible batch processors for 24 bit to 16 bit conversion.

Doesn't Audacity have a batch convertor?

BTW, if you buy your samples from my site, they are already 100% fully compatible with all versions of JJOS, including dedicated JJOSXL programs where required

thanks for the reply. i don't have audacity. and at this time i'd like to avoid downloading the whole thing just to convert sample bit.

concerning the samples in your site, i was looking at goldbaby because i am seeking right now TR808 and TR909 samples, and goldbaby has been recommended to me for those.

however it looks like your pack "drum machine evolution" covers 808 samples. do you have a pack for 909 samples ?

No, just 808 as a dedicated kit, although Drum Machine Evolution also contains a hybrid kit that contains some 909.

Those Goldbaby sounds are really good, still worth getting them as well, his version sounds very different to the 6 versions on Drum Machine Evolution, so the two combined would be a very immense 808/909 collection

Word. It does a surprisingly good job. Just Ctrl+A 100o of them if you need to. Whatever the import settings are at in preferences will be the same for right click/convert context menu.

The lite free convertors in Mac store are crippled and the paid ones honestly do no better a job than iTunes.

If you're on Mac go and download "Switch" ASAP.

I'll post back here what I use on the PC but it does batch conversions to and from every thing audio. Both 100% free. And they work.

But f'reel - Switch rocks.

Nice to know the Mac Store has one that is free without the limits on the file amount you can do at once. Good looking out medearis.

i have a few questions re:itunes (sorry never used itunes before )
so i go to itunes preferences >import settings>import using WAV encoder, setting @ 44.100 kHz, 16 bit.
is this correct format for my MPC1000/JJOS2XL ?

also (plse bear with me ) what is the easiest way to get all the downloaded 24 bit samples into itunes, and batch convert them ??

Just make sure you check the results which ever software you use as conversion to 16 bit can introduce noise. This is often very noticeable on the tail of individual drum sounds and if this happens its handy to have additional dithering options with noise reduction control, which you may not have on less specialised software.

But yes, 16 bit, 44.1 is the format you need to convert to.

reaper has a batch convertor... You can also dither and shape... and apply fx over the conversion as well..

It's not free.. But has a 30 day trial period and nag screen.. and it does not cripple after 30 days just nags you... The download is only 15 mb if that...

I use my favourite media player "MediaMonkey" to convert 24bit .wav samples to 16bit .wav samples with good results in the past

Also - I'm using MediaHuman Audio Converter on my PC. Works 100%.
Both are completely free as well.

I use Wavosaur and its awesome for batch conversion in multiple formats and you can record and chop samples with it. Check ot out.....
