buying 1000 replacement pads (besides VST)???

hey, just got off the phone with VST and they said they had the pads for $16 each (plus shipping).

seeing as how i have to order a couple of them, i was wondering if anyone knew any other spots to possible order them from?

i thought i saw someone say they got them for $8 each, but i can't find that post now...

Yea i talked to VSt today also. To bad they only sell the colored pads for every model but the 1k. ooh well.

I know i'm not an everyday poster in this forums but I do read it everyday. I have owned a 2000xl since it came out (recently traded it for a 1000) and I personally have buddies who have owned the original 2000 since it has come out and I have never seen this problem. I notice that people in this forum repeatedly have issues with pads. I have one preventive solution for you and maybe this will work, maybe it will not. Have you ever thought that maybe you are hitting the pads a little too hard? It is a computer not a drum set. But maybe i'm wrong.

No. The pads are cheap, not well made.
I have tiny hands and weak fingers.
It ain't me.
If we start a "me too" thread you would see how many
people have bad pads.
I fixed mine. I've been inside my MPC1K
and tore it apart and put it back together. The entire unit is built
like a Sherman Tank wrapped in Kevlar buried in cement: EXCEPT for the
pads. They are the weak link.
I've had my MPC1K since it was introduced by AKAI.
Maybe the early MPC's had bad pads??
I've seen video's of people banging the crap outta their
MPC2K pads. I've actually heard the cry of pain from
an MPC2K because it was getting whacked so hard from someone.
It said "Please Hammer, don't hurt me!"
The "better" models of MPC's have "better" pads.
The MPC1K has the "Fisher Price" (it's a Toy Company) pads.
Oh, and don't forget: The replacement pads cost $16 a piece. That is some serious aftersale income for AKAI.
MPC1K: $900
16 new pads per year: $256
Heck, two new pads per year: $36
You didn't buy an MPC1K, you're just leasing it!

lol. I love the way you put that. I was laughing my arse off. $16 a piece is a little rough but I don't think that the surplus of the 1k pads is very high since they changed the size. (I dunno) But they do feel as worthy as any other MPC. If mine does start to go bad though I will post so I can take the "I told you so" in the arse. I remember seeing on like undergroundhiphop.com a pic of this guys MPC2k and his pads were dirty as hell. Almost black. Peeps were joking on him saying stuff like "you using chicken wings as drum sticks. lol

i dont hit the pads hard at all, i've just had my 1000 for awhile now and tend to set up my programs in the same pad formation, so certaian pads get used way more than others.

it sucks but what can you do except order more pads i guess...

i went out like a sucka and got me a trigger finger for battery 2...............and now i use it to run my 1000....these pads are solid and the velocity is amazing. Its pc use is quite expressive while if i control my 1000 with it, it has better response in my opinion.

i remember reading a thread on this before and i had a theory about the mpd 16 doing the same thing, but what someone argued against it was the note repeat function did not work on it. On the trigger finger the note repeat function does work on it.

that's good to know! how comes one works and the other don't? they both just transmit a midi note and its velocity level, any ideas? cos i kinda wanted to keep it akai

i don't know why. That's my theory too. Its just midi notes. I'll just see what else i can do with this trigger finger and the enigma midi editor.

What i did notice is on the mpd 16 you can only have two pad bank changes..............the trigger finger gives you 16 different midi assignments (pad banks)....man, i wanted to keep it akai too, but if it works, it works.
