can the 1000 do auto chromatic?

the 1k itself can not do this but with the help of (if you use a pc and not a mac) is bluebox. bluebox can create chromatic pgms.

chromatic is when you like lets say, u know how they have those sample CD's with keyboard sound and all that? Well so you take your Piano Note and put it to the mpc, CHROMATIC is feature that will allow u to play it like a keyboard!! i think.... but thats how i understand it, but if that i aint right, it sure is damn close though

when the midi notes of the 4 pad banks are laid out from 35 to 99 or something. makes it easy to use external stuff like reason/sound modules, etc from the mpc.

haha no. not at all. you're right in the sense of what auto chromatic was for older models of mpcs. dead on, actually. essentially, that's what 16 levels is for on the 1k.

i was talking more from a midi standpoint. you were more right than i was, actually.

hmmm but wouldnt chromatic sound better than 16 level pitch? cus i know you could do chromatic on bluebox, but i cant figure it out, matter of fact cant figure out bluebox at all, lol

Yeah it's kinda funky. You have to click on the pad you want to load a sample into then hold down right click and drag sample onto the pad.

Also i don't believe bluebox's chromatic will timestreach or anything so it should sound exactly the same as 16 levels. You just get a saved chromatic program all ready to load.

I just setup a template in Adobe audition to timestreach a group of samples to the same duration then BAM! multisamples son.

Then it's off to live 5 for effects...

Then back from the mpc to logic for tracking and...mix..ing...

Why do i use an mpc again?

the term chromatic is used to refer to a music scale. in terms of a piano, if you run your fingers along a piano key, by key including the black keys, you are playing a chromatic scale.

now lets bring this to the mpc. say you have a bass sample and want to play the bass sample on the mpc. you would turn that sample into a chromatic scale. older mpc's had this function and you would press a button (or series) and the mpc would "automatic"ally spread that 1 sound across the pads in a "chromatic" scale, allowing you to play the pads as if you were sitting at a keyboard.

sparq, or anyone that has used this feature on bluebox, does it work better than 16 pitch? or is it the same?

i'm not at the mpc right now.... but i was wondering if i could change the default pad setup to be autochromatic so that when i use the pgm "No. 1-128" to call up the voices in my motif, I could still have my pads in the order i like for controlling external gear?
... would this f up my regular "sample" pgms?
