they're not really cheap, but i suppose they're reletively cheep...

i've got an old analogue casio that i picked up for $20 from a garage sale. it can sound pretty good thru enough pedals so there might be something 2nd hand on craigslist or ebay that might be good and cheap.

I've never seen or heard of an analog casio before. From what I know, they were all digital with PCM or FM synthesis.

looking for a cheap good VA monosynth the Micromodular is a good choice.
spend some more and aim for a Evolver, MS2000 or maybe the wicked Sidstation!

you're probably right, i assumed it was analogue cause it's so old and the drums in it sound analogue... i can't remember the model but it's along the lines of this one...

I assume by synth your really talking about a sound module. If that's the case then go for any of the modern Proteus series. You can probably find one that will fit your musical style.

They have powerful filters and good synth editing capabilities so they should give you what you need and can be picked up for around £300 second hand.

man, get the Roland SH-32 virtual analog synth with 32 voice polyphony and 4 part multitim... with true tr-808 + tr-909 drumsamples... I am gonna use this unit with my MPC1000 controlled by an E-MU X-board 49.

SH-32 sounds like an interesting choice, that's about as cheap as you can get. For under $200 you could get a Roland JX or Alpha Juno, which are tougher to program.

I would consider a Juno 6 or 60, that you can sample into the EPS if you need to MIDIfy it. The Juno 106, altho it has midi, breaks alot.

I have the Waldorf Micro-Q, I like it alot for the price (@ $300 on Ebay) It sounds much better through an analog filter. If you don't have one of these analog filters, it might be a good idea to check out something analog, unless you have a VA or digital sound in mind.

How about reason 3.0 and a midi keyboard?
