I'm planning on doing my own mixing and recording to my PC if i decide to get the 1k. I would like to EQ certain parts separately and also have separate tracks to be professionally mastered. So are the 4-outs limiting and do i actually need 8-outs to have my beats professionally mastered?

that depends on how you want your tracks seperated ; if you really wanna do it proffessional i'd say : break up every sound from your beat ( hi-hat, kick, snare, sample 1, sample 2, bassline etc.)

Depending on your soundcard you can record the tracks at the same time(while syncing it to your sequencer). The MPC1000 got 6 mono outputs max. You could record 6 tracks and after that record another 6 but you have to assign the outputs again after you recorded the first 6.

To give you a short answer : The more tracks you got seperated the better your mix is.

good luck

well for me its not limiting

whats limiting is that my Tascam interface can only record 2 tracks at once so I couldnt use all of the outs even if I wanted to

but it would be limiting if you were wanting to track out 8 tracks at a time all at once.

Right now I track out 1 track at a time and it is time consuming. I would like to be able to use all the assignable outs.

so yeah it is some what limited depending on what your looking to do.

there are actually 8 outs on the mpc1000.

4 individual outs, 2 stereo outs, 2 digital outs.

break everything down and you can record 8 at a time through the mpc outs. i usually avoid the analog outs though, unless the sample can afford it.

sometimes I thing the 6 analog outs are limiting, but then again I can only record 8 at a time and I usually have 2 outs coming from my keyboard so its well enough in limits for me. If I get that MPC 3000 I would have to rethink a lotta things.

Wait a minute. The stereo outs and digital outs produce the same signal so that equals 6, not 8.

ok the stereo outs are really 2 in 1 right (2 mono/L&R channels). So could i say have a kick panned all the way to the right and a snare panned all the way to the left. Then separate the channels after they are recorded. Y'all think that would work?

You could have one out and it really wouldn't matter. It would just take you alot longer. Four outs only limits you to recording 4 tracks at a time. So you can just record mulitple times and it's fine. I use spidif which is pretty much 2 outs and it's fine, time consuming but fine. So it's only limiting in the fact that it takes more time.

When you do this you, can you re center the sample so it will play on both right and left, speakers? i don't know ish about tracking out.

Yes, this is true. So any thing that is a mono track, like drums, you can use as esstially two outs. Record them similtaniously. You don't even have to "recenter" it. Just record two mono tracks at the same time. Or if you cannot record multiple tracks similtaniously in the software app you use, duplicate the stereo tracks, pan one all the way left, one right within the software. Then convert it to mono and you will have a mono track that is centered (obvioiusly) and your good to go.

What do you mean by centering them?

So if i had a song that i wanted routed to 8 separate tracks id have to record the song once with the 6 outs. then mute the already recorded tracks and record again with the remaining tracks routed to their own outs. jus making sure i got recording down b4 i cop a 1k.
