i'm definitely not getting my 32 samples at once. im not even using stereo samples and all my samples are set to poly. this has been annoying me for a while and ive been working around it. does 3.0 improve upon this at all? anyone else feel me on this?

are you saying setting some to mono should help? ive tried that with no luck, also some folks on here have told me to keep them all on poly. what are you saying specifically?

How many of your samples have long silent 'tails' on them? If they do, then you're using up polyphony playing silence.

well if you have a kick drum sample that's 1 second long, but the sound only lasts for 1/10th of a second, and you play three kicks in quick succession, say three in 1/2 a second, you'll use up 6 voices (if the sample is stereo). you can see now that having a few kicks snares and hats playing at once (even though the sounds don't overlap) can eat your polyphony for breakfast!

like ucacjbs says, you have to make sure that you trim your samples down to the absolue minimum to free up voices again.

using mono means that, for that pad if you repeatedly hit that pad, the sample will be cut off by subsequent versions of itself.

hope you understand what i'm trying to say.

peace

that's an interesting point - i'll look at the samples in the beat im having the problem with. i do leave silence at the end of samples sometimes.

then maybe i've interpreted someones suggestion wrong... someone asked me if all my samples were in poly, i thought they were suggesting that they should be...that's insignificant..i've tried changing all or some of the samples to mono with the same result. the suggestion about the silence at the end of the sample may be the solution, i still have to try it.

32 voices = 32 simultaneous mono sounds or 16 simultaneous stereo sounds i think, but i never tried it myself.

Just has an example: If you have a pad with all four layers playing a long stereo samples in POLY mode if you press the pad 4 times in a row it will get to the limit of polyphony.
