Does everybody have pad issues across the boards or...

...is it more sporadic where certain people get bum pads and certain people's pads last for five years. Because i notice like Sonicstate and harmony central reviews don't say anything about the pad issues that people talk about here all the time. any thoughts?

...on my MPC1KBK are absolutely fine. But I dont hit that thing like its Sonic Blastman in the arcade...

Massive respect to Antonym for coming with a badass solution to the pad prob tho.

there should be an official count for all the heads with **** pads. my 1000bk is good , but i got it new and only had it since october, and i never use it- too busy with the sp404.

When i got the 1k 8 months ago (used) the pads were fine, in those 8 months some started to wear down, esp No. 1, 2 and 5 (kick, snare, closed hat usually). Pad 1 still responds, but you have to hit it hard.
I dont think i play with too much pressure, worked with the mpd for years before like mad and its still like new.

a poll wouldn't really tell us much...

you'd have people who just picked up a 1000 voting "my pads are fine, i don't get it" only to come back a couple days/weeks/months later with a different story.

particularly with the apparent new pad construction on newer model mpcs (probable but unconfirmed)

don't think your concerns and complaints are falling on deaf ears guys. Akai hears you loud and clear. Any corporation with half a brain keeps a close eye on its product performance in the field, and the market for potential future products, and as 1k owners, you all fall into both categories. They can't respond though, and that's also par for the course, because any response could potentially be used against them. So much so that they can't even acknowledge your complaints. And this situation is pretty much par for any industry. I say just keep pushing forward with it, even if it has to be a class action lawsuit...

although, I do envy those gushy pads on the 2000xl.
If there was a pad upgrade to get more gushy pads for the mpc 1k i probably get it.

question - these things are def. gonna look a little different from the original (probably a different shade of gray, maybe even a black) but would anyone be upset if they were significantly higher than the existing pads? ie 2 times as thick, maybe more. they'd jut up from the case more than the existing pads, but they'd be sooo much softer/more responsive to the touch with thicker rubber as opposed to thin rubber...

If it has to be like that...than so be it...but if it could be the same height or just a lil bit higher that would be ideal for me, by preference i wouldnt them super elevated like those fat pads that forat used for some of the mpc300's

that's exactly the idea actually - and unfortunately. i may have to make 2 molds. from my experience with pressure sensors, i've found that the softer/thicker the material, the better the sensitivity spread.

i'll look at making two molds though so people have an option. however the first couple molds i'm gonna make are the thick ones.

for me the 1k is the best midi sequencer ever and the pads just have to work. and if it feels good too i'm more than happy.

I remember thinking the pads on my 1k were a little hard when I first played it. If it helps the sensitivity than all the better!
