How Do You Solder?

Well i searched some of the old posts about people having to replace there broken buttons, jog wheels, etc..I found that you have to solder your tact switches in.But when i removed the faceplate on my mpc i couldn't pull the switch out.it was really stuck in there.Do i have to remove more screws?Does anybody know how i could remove the tact switch out and and install a new one?It's under my down arrow button.And Sorry that i've posted about this subject for the hundreth time already.

You probably have to unscrew the panel and then buy a desoldering braid. Turn the panel upside down where all the solder is. Put the braid over the solder and put your soldering iron over the braid and it shoot get most of it off. Then solder the new switch in its place. I havent looked at it but that's probably how it is.

I don't know if you should be attempting this on your own...

I know man, i really don't want to but from what i've read it sounds pretty easy.Even though i've never soldered anything in my life i sure as heck don't want to pay out the ass for someone to do a simple job.I just want to learn how to do it right before attempting to try.But that makes sense arond beats cuz all the tact switches are attached to a panel.I never unscrewed it though.Is solder hard to take off or put on?Has anyone else tried soldering these before?Any tips?

Soldering is not like gluing..... you need to have a very hot iron to quickly apply heat directly to the area to be soldered. Then you need to finish the job quickly to avoid overheating the surrounding area.

You need to learn about "tinning" and "cold joints"


For gods sakes practice on something before you do surgery on your MPC.

soldering isnt too hard but you really should find an old radio or something you can practice on bro. Also check this link out...

thats not going to do much if you intend on soldering boards. Theres more room for error on wiring than on boards. Not tryn to knock it tho. Practice is practice regardless

before you attempt soldering on your MPC

I wouldnt recommend a desoldering braid.
You're better off using a desoldering pump.
It's quicker and there's less of a chance for error.

Hey bruh... I would check to see that it might just be the plastic button broken and not the tact switch. I found that to be the problem for my friends dodgey shift button.
Trying to solder those tact switches is not easy for the beginner. If you apply too much solder to a connection and it melts onto another connection, you can do some serious damage when you power it up.

Taking apart the 1K's top panel is easier the other MPC's:
remove 3 screws on the top back,
1 on the bottom front,
1 next to the card reader,
2 below the card reader panel,
remove card reader panel,
and 2 more screws behind the panel you removed.
Oh yeah... take off the Q-link sliders buttons before removing the top piece.

Yeah i'm definetly gonna try soldering something alse before my MPC.My plastic button is actually broken from pushing it so hard when the button wouldn't work.But my tact switch still works about 50/50.I'm definetly going to replace both soon and not be so rough with them.Thanks everyone for the help

£20 get a pro to do it! lol or risk the £600 loss. i just pay and get it fixed by a pro instead of all the ball ache of getting a soldering iorn, metal, practise ect ect
