I am about to order the HDM 10 kit and the 80 Gb hardrive from VSTservices (one of the advertisers here) and I am wondering if I should try to pay VSTservices to do it or if I can handle this task myself. :?:

be sure to get a hard drive enclosure also. The 1k has usb 1.1 which is slow as a snail when copying data. The standard that your computer and everything alse uses is usb 2.0. So if you wanna back up your beats but dont wanna wait 8 hrs to do so, I suggest you cop one of those enclosure3s also. i found a cheap 1 @ Fry's elec. for $20. works like a champ!

It's a piece of cake, no major problems.

Just be careful with the little screws... they can fall onto the motherboard and that's frustrating... you have to turn the MPC upside down to shake them loose...

The enclosure uses USB 2.0.

Usb 1.1 transfers data @ like 12 mb/s

Usb 2.0 transfers @ 480 mb/s

I'd love to do that too cause. I was takin' mine out a lot last week cause my homie kept getting new samples and sharing is caring so...

But I was taking it out a lot and after so many times in such a small period of time I got to the point where I wanted to leave that part of the casing off. But oh well, small price to pay for transfering gigs of data in a couple of mins vs. hrs. LOL.

Let me know how your Mod goes. I might be right behind you.

Sorry, not sure I get it... What are you calling an enclosure, the HDM10 kit? Are you saying the HDM10 kit is USB 1.1?

The HDM-10 kit is just a mount for your HD. You screw your HD onto it and then slide it in your MPC. You can't put an HD in the MPC without it.

The MPC USB port is 1.1, so it can only transfer data @ 12 mg per second. And enclosure is basically a shell that you put your HD in (after you take it out of your MP). There is a lil mount for it in the enclosure too. You attach it and slide it into the enclosure. the enclosure is like an external HD except no HD inside cause you put your HD in there, so its kinda like a External HD shell. BUT, it provides USB 2.0 (which transfers data @ 480 mb per second, sooooo much faster than USB 1.1!). So, if you have some GBs to transfer to your HD (GBs are roughly about 1200 MB I think) you can wait about a min per GB with 2.0 or wait a couple hrs for a couple GBs to transfer with 1.1 (which your MP has in the back for your CF and HD to use to transfer).

Now, if you're transfering something that is some kb, than you can use the 1.1 on the MP, but if your getting a library of samples from your homie, you take your MP out and put it in your enclosure and make the transfer faster.

Thanks Hereo, now I get it. I didn't know that about the USB 2.0 enclosure... you learn something new everyday! A while back I installed an 80GB drive in my MPC1000 and always thought I was stuck with that slow transfer rate but now I see there is another possibility.

Again thanks for taking the time to write such a detailed post.
