How Do I Record My Keyboard Into The MPC In Real Time?

I have a casio keyboard that I've been trying to connect to mpc. how do I record into into the mpc in realtime. I have the midi out of the keyboard into the midi in of the mpc. I'd just like like to be able to record my basslines and keys and all that other stuff into the mpc. If I'm being to vague just tell me. All help would be appreciated.

there's different ways to go about doing this.

if you're using midi, make sure you also have midi in on the keyboard going to midi out on the mp. assuming you have both devices hooked up to a mixer, basically all you need to do is to record on a midi track

otherwise, select an audio track, assuming you're using jjos, and record your stuff without midi

you could also simply record what you want to as an analog source but doing it this way you wouldn't be able to play along with your other tracks and have it perfectly synced up.

alright, so I made the track type to midi rather than drum (i've never done this before, so I don't know if this is right). Then I turned midi onto 1A. I then recorded and the keyboard kind of reported into the mpc. For some reason, the keys I had recorded (in realtime like you said) played back on the keyboards speakers rather than that of my mpc.

you said I needed to have the keyboard hooked up to my mixer. I don't have my keyboard hooked up the mixer.
So basically, how do I make it record into my mpc, and play with my mpc and speakers, not the one for the keyboard.

also, when I tried to delete the track I had recorded the keyboard on, it didn't go away. How do I delete the keyboard.

MIDI DOESNT CARRY SOUND ITS JUST A COMMANDS. THat being said as mentioned above you will need to hook your keyboard up to a mixer sir. If you want to delete what you just did then just record over it dont over dub.

yeah, I realise that. But I don't have the cables/wiring to hook up the keyboard up to my mixer. This also isn't a $2000 yamaha keyboard. It's more like a hundred dollar casio. So is there anyway I can do this with my current situation.

so basically what your saying is, I have JJOS (which I don't), I can just record straight from my keyboard into my mpc, and it will actually play through my mpc/mixer, rather than the through the keyboard like before.

Since I need JJOS, is it easy to install?

Yeah something like dat. I dont own a 1k so I cant tell you exactly how to do it. I know it can be done though, upgrading to JJ os should be pretty easy though

you don't need jj os to simply record analog audio into the mpc... just go into RECORD mode ( MODE + PAD5 ) and record it.

doesnt matter what os you have. MIDI ISNT AUDIO. like stated before. it records the notes you play. midi works like this [ correct me if im wrong ]

you connect a midi out from your keyboard into the midi in of the mpc.
this is so when you record it'll record what notes you played on the keyboard and save it onto the mpc.

connect a midi out from the mpc into midi in of the keyboard
this is so the mpc will tell the keyboard the notes you recorded. so that it can play the audio.

in other words. no matter what you need a master mixer of some sort.

yes, midi is simply controller language

midi goes beyond even music, theatre lighting people can use it to program light automation (dimming, etc.).

record the midi data, plug the audio output of the casio into the audio input of the mpc

after the midi track is recorded, go into RECORD mode. choose analog source, press record, then press play on the mpc

you now have the casio track recorded as an MPC sample. you can assign this to a pad and do whatever you want with it.

no mixer necessary
