First and foremost, I love this machine! I dunno how I ever made beats without it! With that said, I'm having some difficulties with the machine. I'll be working on a beat, and it'll get to the point where i'll stack enough parts that during the play back it starts muting tracks out. If I solo them, you can hear every track individually is playing how I recorded it in, but when I press play, lets say....the bassline will play for like a half of a second and than u won't hear it anymore till the loop starts again. Is this some kind of glitch that can be repaired, or am i just outproducing the machines capability?? Please help me because it's **** with my creative flow. :x

Go to program, then params, on the top right you'll see its set to poly. Switch to mono and you'll be good to go.

i tried that...it didnt work. When i switch to mono...it makes it worse......than instead of hearing things like the kick drum...all u hear a clicking sound

the MPC 1000 has a max polyphony of 32.. this means you can have a maximum of 32 samples being played at the same time. if you try to play another sample above that limit it will essentially stop one of the previous samples from playing in order to free up a voice.

in the JJ os (not sure if it is also in the akai os) there is a polyphony meter (i think in the other pad's mode) that will show you how many voices are sounding. usually 32 is plenty if you're using primarily short drum samples/stabs but if you have several long loops that last multiple bars you will reach this limit fairly quickly.

:( damn...thats what i was thinkin...but i hoped i was wrong. thats cornu.....do the bigger ones hold a bigger workload? even if i wanted to track out to pro tools and than add more from there...my comp isnt strong enough to handle that workload either.

ok...so i been playing around with this shit all night......and what i ended up doing is converting my stereo samples into mono samples in trim mode. but now my concern is.....is it watering down the sound quality when i do that????

na i wouldnt convert them to mono. Why not just get the drums right then resample them all and assign the new sample to just one pad. That should free up some space.

my firewire is **** up...so i can't even record into the computer right now....i been doing everything mono today...and i can't tell the difference......i'm all the way up to half of the c bank pads with samples so far and its not **** with me. before...i would get to like pad 1 of bank b.

cant notice the difference? Maybe in bass but anything stereo converted to mono makes a noticable difference. But room acoustics, monitor distance etc will make everyones listening environment different. To each they own i guess.

yeah...the drums were stacked....so i didnt wanna **** with the thickness of them...i didnt mono the drums....them shit are smackin. i might get it to the big studio and be mad at the quality....but usually the saying goes...if u can make it sound good on shit speakers...it'll sound great on real monitors. i think it starts in where u get the sounds from. if u start with a shitty sound no matter how much u dress it up...theres only but so good its gon sound. but if ur pulling sounds from a fantom or motif...they should be str8. this is the 1st time i was able to get this high in tracks. i just finished the beat off..the final track cound ended up being like 21. its the 1st time i ever got to flip a track to in this much depth to where i can say i wouldnt wanna touch it. anymore or less would ruin it. i had the motif es...and it only had 16 tracks....and i couldnt sequence like i can with the mpc.

well this is a yes and no kind of scenario. I get alot of guys in the studio who do their own beats at home and they sound bangin at the crib or on headphones and sound like absolute sh!t in the lab. At the same time i have a $25 pair of radio shack speakers i reference to and in most cases vocals that sound good there will sound good on my mackies and yamahas. But beats...no matter what i do on the cheapies I have to pretty much redo the mix when i get to the studio. I see you in bwood. Where by?

yeah...thats kinda true......cause i remember when i 1st started all i had was these 10 dollar comp speakers. it would sound on point in there..but than when i played them in the car or something i would see how the bass was drowning everything out. so from that to borrowing my ****** monitors ·Event 20/20) was a huge difference. but he took those back. So now i got these lil jbl comp monitors. i kinda just have a ear for whats too loud or whats not loud enough now. Yeah Brentwood..West Side by that 7/11 on pine aire
