A bit late to this post but what amazing news
When I saw this thread my eyes lit up and jaw hit the ground.

As somebody said, once this happens will feel like I have a whole new machine again :) lol. Would be amazing if the HD bi passed the flash memory (upgraded mine only last month though) ah well :(.
Guess there is no guarantee this will happen though, I will be happy either way, more happy if the HD does replace the flash memory though :)

So come on Akai, release the OS + the HD caddy or whatever it is. I need this in my life now!!! :x

if this works out, the mpc will be a great tool for live 2-track recording

i really like the sound of the converters with just a couple of mics plugged in; you could even mix down a show to 2 tracks and call it a day if the mpc had a hard drive.....

Keep in you only have 12 minutes and 13 seconds of stereo recording. And if you're doing a 2-track live recording you'd be better off using condenser mics which require phantom power.

My live recording rig consists of a Tascam FW-1082, matched Rode NT5 condenser mics, two boom stands and a lap top.

it's getting hard to find the right thread to post stuff in cuz cats start like 15 different threads talking about the same thing.

anyway, i'll post this in here.....

it's been confirmed that a new OS is coming within the next few weeks. i don't know exactly what's going to be in the new OS.. the only thing i do know about it, it's being written to accomidate the hard drive. once the new OS is released, that's when akai is going to make available the list of approved hdds and the type of connector.

so be on the look out.

oh, just to let everyone know (if you didn't already) putting in the connector and hard drive (as well as the black kit from the other thread) yourself, will not void your warranty with akai.

there's going to be a long list of approved hdds to choose from. not just the three that was previously mentioned.

also, i'll put this bit of information in this thread as well since it sort of pertains to this subject.....

I was told that I would not be disappointed with the new OS.

this may be a tease, i don't know. my source is not telling me EXACTLY whats going to be in the new os but just kept telling me that i will not be disappointed because he's not. (he's an advid 1k user himself)

like in the other hd thread, have a look at the current os (.bin) with an editor and youll find interesting things like:

"MEMORY CARD HARD DISK INTERNAL MEMORY"
"AStorage ACompactFlash AHardDisk"
"MPC1000 Memory Card 1.00 MPC1000 Hard Disk "

imo it might be already possible, with the right connector, to get the hd working...

a hdd is in the current code, yes but it may not be a complete instruction set. it probably was just a place holder for future os's.

Yes you are right, but you could never know. 8)
