is that when it's connected to your computer? if so, disconnect it, and format the hard drive using the mpc.

Can you get external hard drives to hook up to the MPC? I don't want to go through all the trouble of installing a hard drive inside it and risk f'en it up. Plus, I might be buying an external hard drive for my computer anyways, so I figured I'd be able to kill 2 birds with 1 stone, ja know!?

If yes, any suggestions for brands, models, etc? I'm thinking somewhere between 50gb and 100gb.

Unlease you droped the MPC repeadidly while installing the Harddrive it would still b e difficultg to fk it up. Don let the instillation put you off, it is a whole seperate compartment where the drive goes in so you dont go near the inside of it. I would be happy giving it to an 8 year old to do it.

Took a 15GB hard drive out of a broken Archos MP3 player and it works great. IBM Travelstar drive, I believe - not sure what model number. USB transfer rate is SLOW as hell, but at least it's bad ass to have a hard drive in the 1000 now. Thought about buying a new drive, but I'll see how the 15GB drive meets my needs first.

If you read this thread, you've probably seen nobody had serious problems with installing the HDM10 + Hard Drive... It's VERY simple. What you need is just a screwdriver... and 5 minutes of your time. (+ 2.5" HD are designed to be tough and shockproof)
The only problem you can meet is maybe the compatibility of the HD with the MPC... But I really think it's bad luck if it doesn't work, regarding the range of HD recognized by the MPC.

You'd be a fool not to upgrade for such a reason!

I have been told that you cannot put 5400 rpm or more in your MPC 1000 or 2500 because the HD when working deliver too much heat into the mpc.
Has someone heard about it

^^^if i remember a feew people have posted that they have tried 5400rpm and have had no probs. I can see why 7200rmp would be a bit much (and expensive). Im using 4200 and its really quik btw

Does installing a hard drive makes the MPC1000 a lot heavier to carry around?

the HD from my old presario 1245 laptop doesn't work. i can hear the HD crank up but the 1k does not recognize it. oh well, hopefully i will be able to afford my 100gig soon. peace.

yeah, i got a double-hernia the other day when i took my mpc out with me. :P

nah... for real, between the drive and the hdm10, it would probably weigh roughly 1lb more, give or take a few ounces.
