not every black 1000's have the new pads...

I know this has been covered one hundred billion trillion times, but lets discuss it some more just to take up some more webspace!

I got a BK a bit over a year ago here in Aus, it had the old pads, my mate just bought a BK brand new and it had the new pads. I went from store to store with him to ensure he didn't buy a brand new one with old pads. Many stores had no idea what we were talking about, we finally went to StoreDJ in Richmond, Melbourne and they knew what was up and he got the new pads included with his new MPC. We compared the packaging boxes to try and find out if there was any definitive way of identifying an MPC with new or old pads simply by looking at the box without having to remove the unit. My box had a Grey sticker on it with a big S which was located just above the serial number and barcode. And my mates had a green sticker which had a big A on it in the same location on his box. Does this mean anything to anyone? I took a few crappy photos of the them just for arguments sake. It may be related, it may not... Just thought I'd share...

I saw someone post somthin about takein the old pad's out and replacein them with the mpd16's pad's. I can't remember who posted but they tested it with the qlink and all the connectin's and he said it was butter.
Only prob is the pad's on the mpd are bigger and wont fit .

My pops is a friggin master wood worker so he's gonna give me a hand with makein a faceplate that could support them. I'll use an old faceplate as a template to make a new one, Either gonin with some sort of plexy glass or maybe some high end wood.

other than opening it, there's no other way? becuz i'm about to go check one out from this local head who said it's a BK model but i don't think he'll let me open it. any way you can tell by feel or wut?

MPC1000

The MPC1000 is a 64-track sampler/sequencer. It comes with 16 MB sample memory as standard, and can be expanded to 128 MB. It supports sampling rates of 22 or 44.1 kHz, in stereo or mono. Its features include a USB port, an internal CompactFlash card reader, two MIDI inputs and outputs, and effects and multiple analog outputs as standard. Its sequencer's resolution is 96 ppq.

There have been wide spread problems with the pad sensors in the 1000. In the original MPC1000 sensors, a thin square of carbon-impregnated rubber is attached above a copper coil. When a pad is depressed, this carbon-impregnated rubber is compressed against the copper coil, allowing current to pass through.

An online petition was created due to the pad sensor defects, and as of this writing over 800 unhappy ginnie pigs, lab rats, and monkeys have signed. One of several topics about this can be found here as well as a link to the petition. viewtopic.php?f=15&t=101101

In 2007, Akai offered a pad upgrade to add improved performance, retailing at 180 USD. The pad sensors design returned to the design of the pad sensors in previous models. This upgrade has been seen to be pre-installed on the MPC1000BK-N, not the MPC1000 (blue outer casing), or the MPC1000BK. Before this pad problem was eventually fixed by Akai, a MPC 1000 user designed, built and sold kits of a pad fix under the name "Nym." Nym's kit is no longer available. By comparison, the more recent Akai pad fix uses better sensor technology (Sensitronic FSRs).[12]

Btw, the pad update costs about 125€ here in germany, the mpd 16 is 99€. The mpd is cheaper due to a higher number of units, i guess.

i saw that. at first i was a little weirded out but now i appreciate it, in time i hope i'll have my own dedicated wikipedia page...but you can't exactly make one for yourself, that sh!t is like giving yourself a nickname...just doesn't work unless you're method man

who here actually owns the MPC1000BK-N model?

i have a theory that all the MPC1000BK models that have the upgraded pads are actually the MPC1000BK-N models because nobody has a BK-N model.

i have the bk with the regular pads and they wrk fine..this is my 3rd 1k and all the other ones where fine too, even the blue and red model!
