to be fair, the choice does depend on the kind of music you want to make. If you want to scream and smash things while producing music definitely go with the akai OS. If you'd like to enjoy yourself any version of JJ is pretty appropriate.

As a new guy I wondered about this question. So I did the appropriate thing and installed the free JJ OS. There ain't any comparison. Hands down much better. The improved sample trim functionality alone makes jj better.

asking wether to run akai os or jjos really comes down to a lot of factors that the OP didn't provide any information on. The OP might as well come in and ask if they should stick with the green lcd or get the blue or white lcd. It'd pretty much be the same set of responses anyways

I do, however, use JJOS

Look, the short and simple answer is JJ. I still use the Akai 2.11 and many on here will blast me out of the water for doing so ... but, my logic is that I only use the Akai for beat making and not really for chopping and sampling other's songs. Yeh, sure I load in my chopped drum hits which I make up in Recyle.

The main reasons I did not move over to JJ is becuase they were one or two probs with the midi sync at some point. Now my Akai OS works perfectly with my Cubase setup ( timing et al ), so I have no need to phuck with it at all.

However, if I intended to use my MPC in other ways, then it would be JJ without hesitation, based on what most have to say about it.
