Cursor Button Needs Excessive Force? Arggh...

Just installed some switches. Super easy. Just need to take your time and pay attention. MPC works like a dream now

All tact switches will need to be replaced sooner or later. Perhaps the ones they used in the 1000s came from a super bad batch.

I wouldn't recommend using contact cleaner -- cleaner actually attracts dirt and dust -- you'll be fine for awhile but will have to keep spraying unless you replace the tacts.

The 2500 seems to use larger tact switches for most buttons, so I would guess they are more durable.

And you guys complaining about switches dying in 2 years? Had 2 dead in less than six months on a brand new unit!

I bought my mpc new(black-taiwan) and my mode button has broken after only 4 months....****!!!

I'm thinkin to replace all switches with others/different type...any advice for new model?


I noticed that rotary wheel suck too....

Check my post earlier in this thread with a link to some cheap/strong tacts that work very well.

YO! i just came here to search for this exact problem!! the right cursor.

I've previously owned:

a black 1k with the old pads and silver back panel, bought new in like 06 (worked like a dream)

a blue/red 1k with old pads (still worked like a dream! buttons felt great)

just bought a used "new pad" black 1k and the same thing is wrong with the right cursor. it's unbeliavable! this thing feels worse than ever before. what junk. they most def skimmped on the parts for the newest models to save money. akai should be OUT OF BUSINESS. too bad they own the patent to the type of machine that people care about. i swear to god when i get famous i'm putting akai on blast indefinitely..

my buddy has a blue/red 1k i was playing side by side with my NEW PAD black 1k... and those buttons are absolutely different, they feel a lot different to press. smoother, "chill" if you will... like higher quality, or somewhat closer to the old mpc's feel.. this new one I CAN TELL even has new designed volume and gain knobs, they just look like a different shade and cleaner cut than my old mpc's did. they redid things to cut costs.

i'm gunna go out there and say the newest 1k's are built the worst, they revamped the parts or something to cut down costs cause i can tell from my experience with 4 different 1k's. i don't fck around with my 1k's and i can't believe i gotta cover their azzes by putting new tact switches in. we're doing their job for them, and keeping them in business. i'm not surprised, but i'm fuming, that many others have the right tact switch problem, and here i thought getting the "newest" 1k would be the safest bet
